I still chop occasionally, probably due to the fact that I use ultra-brittle Tournament paint. Level 10 is not infalliable, but it is Very good (Oh, and my X-mag was set up by John Sosta of AGD Europe, so I know it's not the set-up )

have you checked to see if your foamie is missing? And check your Nubbins. the nubbin should only be sticking out the thinkness of a dime. And how cold was it? And what kinda paint were you running. I went to play today and it was 34 degrees in the morning. and everybody was basically breaking a few rounds.

You may have to fiddle around with it. Right when I got Level 10, it was pretty hard on the 'ole finger, but now it's pretty decent. Sounds like it could be a paint problem though. How old was the paint?

yea it was probably a paint problem. the nubbin is the wire/plasting thing on the outside of the barrel that barely stick inside the barrel. it acts as a ball detent (keeps the gun from double feeding)

and the foamie is the little foam piece in the middle of the bolt, some say it does not matter if you have it some say it does.

To reduce the force of the bolt, you can choose either to use a bigger spring, or use a smaller carrier, or both.
Both will decrease the force of the bolt. The drawback is an increase of bolt sticks, and a smaller range of velocities.

Check also if the problem doesn't come from the ball detents. I've got a lot of troubles with dual feeds at very high ROF.

longer spring and a BIGGER carrier, the biggest one that doesnt leak will be the softest.

Here is what is in the Level 10 instructions:

                  Fine tuning
For most people the setup outlined above will make every paintball day a great experience. For those looking to get maximum anti chop with fragile tourney paint we offer the following suggestions. The O-ring friction can be used to additionally slow the bolt down. By going to the next smaller carrier you add an additional layer of protection at the expense of risking bolt stick. You must keep your marker oiled daily to keep it working reliably. The long mainspring can be trimmed to further fine tune the performance. The best performance comes when the marker just starts firing at 270 fps and works reliably at 290 fps.

The penalty for over tuning is the fact that the marker may occasionally refuse to fire. This is because the main spring combined with the power tub O-ring has too much sticktion to let the bolt go forward. Try at your own risk.

In response to the person who said that they played in 34 degree weather and everyone was breaking a few rounds-

Yesterday I played in 37 degree weather, 20 degree windchill (lots of wind, no air field ) and with my Level 10 I had no breaks chops or whatever in 1000 rounds. So far I have had one break, and no chops with my Level 10 setup. I think the one break I had was due to the paint because it broke at the end of the barrel. Anyway, yeah, other people were breaking more than normal amounts of paint in their barrels.

One bad thing I noticed was that my gun wouldnt fire, but there was pressure in the trigger. I was on the field and just looked at my gun in confusion (haha) and I pointed it at the ground and it fired. It may be that I did not have enough oil on the carrier o-ring for 30 degree weather, because I know my setup is not using a very tight carrier. Toms setup hit the dollar bill and I cant get mine to do that.

are you sure they were chops? as in, you had paint all over the bolt when you took it out.. ?

i played with an lx mag when it was REALLY cold. i was breaking paint left and right. turns out the paint i was using was too small and real brittle. didnt chop any, though...

Last time I was out I went through a whole case of paint and no chops. I had gone through over 15000 rds without a chop. On the last game, I was out of paint so a friend of mine gave me couple of pods of paint. It was the same brand of ZAP crap that I was using (field paint only). It was supposedly all fresh paint. The color was different than I had used. All of a sudden spray was coming out of my barrel. I was surprised, thinking I had just chopped a ball. I fired again. Again I had spray. I borrowed a squeegy( I don't carry one anymore) and cleaned my barrel. The next ball I fired, which was carefully watched to make sure it was in the breach, also resulted in barrel spray. It didn't chop though. In all, over half of the borrowed paint came out of my barrel in spray not a fired round. My friend was using the same paint in his regular mag without incident. I can only surmise that the higher chamber pressure of the LX mag caused the balls to explode in the barrel when the air blast hit them.

So, it is possible to break balls in a LX mag without chopping.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
