Dude, you just time travel here from 1890 or something?
Aluminum is EVERYWHERE. Durable? What do you think airplanes are made of? How about Bradley fighting vehicles?
Seriously, aluminum offers great strength with low weight. Will steel be stronger? In some application it will be. But is it worth the extra weight? In paintball, usually no. You should not be having any durability issues with aluminum uless you are burning it, or unless you are dealing with small or fine aluminum parts.

it is lighter, pretty durable, and it can be anodized. I think it's cheaper also...Classic RT - RT02667

lemme tell you how durable Bradley fightin vehicles are.
....
not very.
but the xvalves look kinda sturdy.
the whole aluminum thing does bother me a bit.
military grade aluminum weighs just as much as steel anyway.
its only slightly lighter.i love MAGgie.

hehe millitary grade aluminum, hehe what makes you think ours is so special, im a crew cheif on the F-16 and we generally use 6061 on our fracture critical parts if they are aluminum, 6061 is the same stuff your cocker body is made from, panels im not sure about the material, but its aluminum, besides most of our stuff is painted not annodized, so it allows for different materials. casue the nice thing about 6061 is it takes color the best, thats why paintball guns are made from it. the material that your jets are made from isnt annodized, so we dont have to use 6061, which means that just because the millitary uses it, dosent make it the best.. i know, im rambling

last year we had this argument, would it be worth it to make alluminum bodies even though they are less durable. It's a matter of reliablity vs the compition. Aluminum has the possiblity to strip in the screw holes over time, thats where it's bigest problem is but AGD has got to stay with the rest of the feild and produce a body that is "pleasing to the eye" like everyone else, and if that means aluminum then thats what they have to do. Besides every other paintball gun is made of alluminum now so it's not going to make a difference to anyone who is buying one now. Plus im trusting that AGD has done plenty of testing with the bodies to ensure that they last. Like everything else they make im sure they wont release it unless they can be proud it's AGD.WANTED

steel is cheaper.. in 95% of applications steel is stronger, and the ones that it isnt stronger are things like power lines, and thats because the steel is heavier. am i mistaken or are cats and traps made out of steel? and arent most good taps and dies made out of hardened steel..
i have to stick with the ss on this one... who needs annodizing'04 Rollout Viking - Gloss black, loaded

Steel vs Alum.
Guys,
Each type of material has its good and bad side.
As for stripping screw holes, my humble op. as a
percision machinist is that if you strip out any screw, you don't know what you're doing, Stainless will rust, Alum will
corode. Alum is more forgiving, easier to repair. Most alum alloys are close to the same cost of stainless. Anytime different type of metals are put together, galvanic corrossion will occur ie Alum panels on fighters are held in place by steel zuess fasteners( Do I hear an AMEN, Mr APG troop
) So much for the Mr Wizard science lession for the day
