    clear bumper mangling

Alright, I've read the threads on the clear bumper mangling.

I'm running an X-Valve myself, and I just chewed through my clear bumper. I'm using the gold spring, by the way.

It's been said that the blue bumper is a no-no for energy absorption reasons. I'd like to know just how much risk I'm undertaking if I do choose to use the blue one. Be realistic here.

And uhm... final question... I dislike the "glue the bumper down to the reg" solution. In general, I dislike any solution that involves the use of glue on parts that are more or less meant to be removable/replaceable. It just complicates things when it comes to maintenance.

    However... Has anyone considered...

Gluing a clear bumper onto a blue bumper, or at least a shaved down version of the blue bumper? If you put that in there with the blue portion facing the bolt, I would think that you'd get the resilience of a blue bumper, and the energy absorption of the clear one.

Or basically some sort of variant of this. Basically glue some sort of firmer backing on the clear bumper for the bolt to smack up against.

The blue bumper won't kill your mag, just give more kick. I started using one on my rt valve last year and it is still working. Use the blue one until you can get another clear one.

i wouldnt glue 2 of the bumpers together, i doubt that would work. use the blue one until you can get a clear one, i did when my clear got completely chewed up. i was having trouble with my level 10 leaking down the barrel. once i put the new bumper in, it was fine. all this AGD stuff is pretty heavily engineered, so i wouldnt try modifying anything, like adding 2 bumpers. the only probllem with the blue bumper that say is that it doesnt fire as quickly. it will hold up until you get another one, sucks that they are $2 bucks a piece.

Speed Kills.........but so does everything else only slower

Paintball Talk is the main forum for Automags.org. Here is where we talk about the sport of paintball in general and make announcements relating to the forum and website.

Read this thread and read my post on the second page.

Yeah, I read the thread... breaking it down, it looks like, what, half the people denied the existence of the problem altogther (that's always helpful; thanks guys), a couple went off on tangents about lube or crusty bumpers, and some talk about potentially damaging the power tube if I use the blue one.

Which prompted my first question, what realistically is the "danger" to the hardware if I swap with the old fashioned blue bumper. It sounds like more of a sear wear thing.

Then, specifically with regard to your response on the 2nd page:

          1. I don't like gluing things down that aren't meant to be glued down.

What happens when you need to replace the thing, a la Bill Mills' post:

This is the forum for trouble shooting your Airgun Designs products, including the Automag, RT, E-Mag, and WarpFeed. Also a great place to ask technical questions about non AGD products. An Airsmith's homeroom!

Now you've got this superglued mess to deal with.

          2. If the main source of the problem is the sharp corner of the LX hitting the softer clear bumper, why not just give the clear bumper some backbone on that side?

I realize there's a thickness issue where you need the bolt to be back far enough for the sear to catch it reliably, which is why I'm saying not a full blue bumper, but maybe a shaved down version, or perhaps something made out of another material to give the clear bumper something firmer to go up against the LX with, and help it stay together.

The bumper thickness is as thick as it can get. Modifying that will create issues.

The blue bumper will work okay in mechanical RT valved guns as long as it isn't an older RT with the Carbide Sear.

It will start chewing the sear and the bolt if you run it in an E-gun.

The main reason why Bill Mill's bumper dissolved in his gun was as a result of using Auto-Lube.

I know AGD puts it with all of their guns, but that's another issue I'm not going to get into.

I think KC Trouble Free is the best oil to use in any paintball gun, but a 100% silicone oil in 20wt. such as RC Car Shock Oil will work well also. Most all paintball gun oils are some other oil that is used elsewhere in the industry with a "Paintball Gun Oil" label on them.

Use a good clean oil that won't break down the o-rings, glue the bumper down and it will be like a foamie. It should last forever and you might replace it once every couple years.
