v3.2 bug? or short? or radio shack charger...?

Just got my xmag back from AGD for 3.2 software upgrading. After charging the battery up, I went out and played - it worked fine. Took off the battery that nite to charge it up on that radio shack 12v 1500mA charger I've heard works well here. Probably charged for about 3-4 hours and when I test it with a volt meter, it's around 20-25v as per Blackvvg statement(the charger output that is - battery is around 19v). Throw it on the X and when I turn it on, the letters come up nice and strong, then fade out/blink/get mixed up and partly on/off. strange stuff. And nothing works. not the buttons. nada. zip. I test the battery and it's a bit over 18v, so that seems fine. I then start probing around on the circuit board looking for readings. Probing around various locations shows full 18v readings on the main board, so I know the juice is flowing. But something is causing it to malfunction. Could it be the new software? I can't see any pinched wired or loose connections anywhere on any of the boards. Darned thing seemed to work fine saturday. It has not been dropped or bumped or anything (heck, I treat my paintguns better than I treat my wife! lol). No loose nuts or bolts. No discolored wiring. Maybe the Ratshack charger is the problem. Doesn't seem so. Battery seems well-charged.

What a pain. Anyone have any ideas or should I send it back to AGD for repair from the upgrade? Is it me or do these batterys/boards seem to fail a lot...?

    Thanks for any help!

    hmm...

Is your trigger pressed when you turn it on? Or is the HALL sensor magnet sitting too far back on the trigger?

usually those kind of symptoms are indicators of a loose ground screw, maybe you should check again? its the screw closest to the bottom of the gripframe on the board.

My battery just borked itself with similar problems that you are having, immediately after a charge. I noticed that it seemed hotter than usual off the charger, but could be my imagination.

Hall sensor is fine - have had it set perfectly for a while. I have seen them get out of whack if dropped or bumped hard, so just to be safe I checked it and adjusted it (the magmet) a bit to no avail. I know the hall sensor can cause the board to appear to shut down, but this is different.

Trigger pulled or not has no effect on the problem when switching it on. I know its beneficial to hold the trigger as you turn on air as it helps the seals get seated properly, but was not aware that it had any beneficial effect when only turning on the electronics.

Regarding the grounding. I will check all of them and make sure they are tight.

Regarding battery - Battery is cool to the touch when it comes off of the ratshack charger and appears to have a full charge.

Is your software v3.2 or a different version?
Keep us posted on AGD's resolution of your problem, please. I have another friend who is having problems with his X but I haven't checked his out yet to see if it is similar to this issue...

I have had problems with my X-Mag since having 3.2 loaded. ROBAGD has had problems with Emag. He currently has my X-mag and he will reload 2.1 to see if the problems go away. I never had problems with X-mag before getting the updated software. Had problems similiar to C Sherer. In addition, Rob and myself could not shoot in E-Mode unless you start in hybrid shoot 3-4 shots, then flip to emode.

Not sure if it is related to 3.2 or just the battery. As stated before, things to check are:

                    -Location of HAL sensor
                    -Grounding of the board.
                    -Shorts in the wiring harness
                    -Output voltage of the battery.

Maybe the process of flashing the board moved something, or whatever. I don't understand how the software could do that.

ok, well i was haveing similar problems when i had 2.4, then had 3.0 and still had the same problems. I came to the conclusion that it was a bad battery. The volts seemed fine, but the LED would start twitching out. I figure perhaps it wasn't putting out enough amps...??? another thing i noticed it that if i put a 9v up to the battery connectors of my x, the display would work fine. However it obviously didn't have enough power to cycle the gun, just light up the LED.

so i took the 2 hour trip on saturday to buy a new battery from RobAGD. While i was there he flashed me...er i mean my x with 3.2. I put the new battery on and as of right now shot about 400 rds, but 3-4 times that in dry fires and it is working fine. So i don't believe that it is a problem with 3.2.

However my ACE still doesn't seem to work (but i don't think it ever has sense i have owned it). I turn the POT screw both ways a ton and nothing seems to help. Anyone have any ideas?

One more thing, take your board off and the spot that the ground screw goes into (and the board grounds to) make sure you sand any ano off of that to get a real good ground.

The emag batteries are NiMH cells. The worst thing for them is heat.
