Hey I just designed a custom body kit for my mag and I would like to know what all you mags owners out there think. it is made of an industrial plastic that when it is .1 inchs thick it is as strong as aluminium and harder to scratch. It can easly be dyed and color with T-shirt. right now all i have is a computer generated rendering of the kit but hopefull by feb i will have the kit built and all the bugs worked out. I'm also would like to know how many of you if would buy this kit(im not saying I'm going to start producing or selling but if i get a good review i may consider it).

Looks pretty spiffy, I like the sleek design of the body, if it worked well, and lasted a good while under normal wear, id probably be intrested in one
do you have an estimate cost? im a bit curious on that aspect

That would be an awesome kit but are you sure that it will have the same tolerances if it's only 1/4 inches thick in some parts?

the tolerences shouldnent be botherd if he kept the body, and the rail the same thickness as stock parts... as long as he did it all to exact specifications, it should be fine, though the wear of the parts is what im curious of.

The pic looks interesting. I'd like to see one that had been through a season of wear and tear.A good friend is one that will come and bail you out of jail.
A great friend is one that is sitting next to you in jail saying "Man that was F#%*ing Awesome"!

I think it's a great idea. If it was low cost I'd probably get one to try out.
The problems you'll have are: selling the idea of a "plastic" gun. There is a very real reason AGD uses SS for their body. I think you'd have to make the body mose like the Modular frame to have enough material for strength. Remember that the regular Mag body wouldn't be strong enough if made out of Al.
If you can overcome these issues you'll have a great product. Like I said, if it didn't cost too much I'd get one even knowing it wouldn't last forever. I'd have to get at least one full season out of it."Relax. Don't worry. Have a Home Brew."

I looked at lexan as well and felt that it was too flexible for this job and we are at a toss up between acrylic and epoxy. also to address the thickness the models I have are a little thicker that the stock part. I currently waiting for my prototype model back to I can do the stress and wear testing on it and make the needed changes. I will post the pic of the prototype before and after I abuse it a little.

I'd check with AGD for advice. And if they give the OK I would consider getting a laymans patent. If you sold the right to the right company you could be in some serious dough. What would that whole kit cost?? It does look pretty interesting. Will you use colored plastic as well.I have no Sig.

You should also look at polycarbonate. It's pretty tough and scratchproof and nowhere near as brittle and acrylic. Acrylic would be fine as long as there are'nt parts slamming around inside of them.

well i think if your going to make your own body you should make the body rail and body one peice like the micromag. that way you would have more freedom to design it thicker and stronger. Also you should do alot more cosmetic enhancements i mean shoot if i had the hookups to do that I wouldnt hesitate to let my creativity go where ever it wanted to.

thanks for all the support you guy I love the advice and I will look into all your suggestions seriously. I'm still not sure on the price probably going to incorp material, labor, and a little prof like 5-10 percent ill have to look. the prototypes right now are free since I'm doing it a school project but I do hope to sell the idea to an after market comp if agd lets me. on the color question you can dye the gun parts your self with T-shirt dye I think this element really leaves a lot of customization by the owner and less limitation. to Rudy on the rail body combo I tried to look into that but the problem I ran into is the trigger parts have that pin that hold is between the rail and body and I couldn't find a practical way around it and iv never worked on a micromag so I don't know how they went about it. I am also currently working on a sight rial and power feed body.Last edited by RedRazor; 12-12-2001, 03:15 PM.
