That's a valve that has had the Smart Parts "Magic Box" installed, and then removed. There are maby better ways to plug the hole, but the way it's done now won't be horrible.
As far as the trigger, that appears to be a benchmark frame. A lot of the aftermarket frames all use different triggers because there's no set way the trigger has to pull on the automag.
I'd reccomend shimming the trigger you have there now to remove the side to side play, or putting an Intelliframe on it.

I wouldn't buy it. For $200, you should be able to find a classic Mag without the modded valve (better to have one not modded) and an Intelliframe and LVL10.Comment

LOL....He asks if mags are good in a mag forum.. Thats like going to a democrats convention and asking "Which party should I be?"
Welcome to the fold.
Mags are awesome.
Reasons why:
Theyre stinking dependable.
Built solidly, no cheapie stuff.
Accurate.
Fast, and can be the fastest non electros. ( Which is my personal fav....ive developped a dislike for electros after owning a few)
You can customize them to no end.
Parts are fairly cheap.
IMO- Looks. The whole single tube look is awesome to me.
Id say that mag youre looking at is a fairly good buy for 200$. Try like 180$.Honest Traders:

Oh c'mon, that's what I asked. What I'm looking for is an objective breakdown of what's good on a mag, and what isn't or could use improvement. I do not believe that just because you own a 'Mag, you think it's perfect. If that's how you really feel, then I think you very well might not be true to yourself. EVERYTHING and ANYTHING can be improved on, even to just suit yor personal taste.
But thanks for the reasons why you think 'Mags are the way to go. Reliability and accuracy (consistency) are why I'm looking into this marker.
But really, why would I spend $200 (or even $175) on this when I could buy a new A-5 for $250 and an '04 Cocker for $300?? I'm seeing my own way through grad school right now, so bang for buck is a big deal for me.
thanks.Last edited by gil_ong81; 10-12-2004, 07:43 AM.Comment

if you want an easy to maintain gun, acurate, and consistant, and pretty costomizable then a mag is a great choice. Its a great gun because its simple and gets the job done well. The only grip i wouls say is efficency but i cant even really gripe about that because who cares if you have all day air?

alot of people think that $200 is alot to pay for this marker.
I just wanna be sure that this is indeed pricey for the marker and the level 10 bolt.
I don't want to low-ball a playing buddy, but I also don't want to pay more than it's worth.Comment

$200 is a tad high. I would highly recommend mags, though. I used to be a Spyder guy, but the one-tube sexxiness lured me in. Now I love mags, and couldn't imagine owning anything else. Like someone else said, $180 would be a good price for this.Comment

I see one reason why you should be carefull about this mag. CO2 whitout an expansion is really bad for a mag. Maybe the remote was enough to keep CO2 out of the marker but I wouldn't bet. If you are on a tight budget mags are great because they are easy to maintain but they need compressed air or an expansion chamber so watch out.Comment

i got my mag for 200 cdn ptp arenaball micro and the trigger gets much stiffer when its air'ed up

Any recommendations?? I'm also thinking of going to HPA at some point, so I'd like to see something that work for both.Comment

CA is always nice because a basic tank runs you about $80 and theoretically can last you about 15 years. So I think it would be worth it. The trigger should be a lot better when aired up, I had a mag with an APP frame on it that was horrible until the mag was pressurized. I don't know about getting an expansion chamber, but it won't hurt. Anyways I haven't played much with a classic mag but here are my thoughts about mags in general...
Classic Mags
-Try to get one with a stock valve and regulator
-Try to get one with stars on it (don't know if they still do that but it doesn't hurt to check)
-You can wash them by airing them up and swishing them in water (dry it afterwards)
-Heavy but reliable
-Low maintainence (sp?)
-The trigger pull is on the long/heavy side
-Recharge is sluggish compared to the X-valve
-ULT can be done but I wouldn't
-Palmer's makes a reg you can mount next to the valve which might work better than an x-chamber although it would be more expensive
-I would stay away from standard feed mags
-I have no idea on price value for any mag (not even mine) but they don't make classics anymore so you can always tell yourself it is a collector's item
Old School RT Mags
-I have never shot one but I have heard they are heavy
-One model doesn't convert well to ULE parts without a lot of money (original RT?)
ULE RT Mags
-Awesome
-Fast shooting
-Much lighter
-Possible to get the Deadlywind trigger when that comes out
-Warp body with a warp and an Evo II makes a really compact setup (although it looks like a tank)
-ULT works amazingly well
-Easy to tune and set up
-Easy to keep in tune
E-mag
-If I only had the money... (Taking donations)
X-mag
-If I only had the money... (Taking donations)
All Mech Mags
-Y-grip, or a Z-grip if you could find one
-Lvl 10
All Mags
-Intellifeed
-Someone please correct me if I am wrong but I believe that a mag fires a set amount of air every time which makes them very consistent.
Personally if possible I would try to save up and find a used RT Pro Custom and then get a small nitro tank. I think you will enjoy it more even if it does cost about twice as much now, to upgrade to an X-valve later would be more expensive. A lot more than my two cents but oh well, hopefully you find at least one helpful thing in all this.
