sparking Barrel??

I have a ule'd xvalve'd mag. I was playing some good old woodsball. I noticed that when i fired a string at about 10 bps, sparks would come out of the porting of my 12" dye titanium boomstick. I thought that the bolt might be hitting the end of the barrel, but it wasn't. I swapped out barrels for a CP with basically the same porting location. No sparks. I also dry fired and no sparks appeared. Does anyone know what is up? (I was shooting RPS premium blue/gold if that helps)

Welcome to the world of Ti barrels It is a very neat effect. What causes the spark is the static electricity build up between the ball and the Titanium barrel. There is nothing wrong with your gun.

shucks, ive got a 16" dye TI and never noticed sparks while playing night games... prolly needs to be a real dry night doesnt it?

Actually no. The first time I have ever seen it it was a hot humid day. It also does not need to be night to see it. What I think might make a difference is the type and size of paint.

That's pretty cool. So it only happens with titanium?

Yeah, only with Ti. Although, I do not know for sure, I have been playing almost 13 years and I have only seen it happen with the Ti Boomsticks.

The other day at the field me and a couple other people were considering compressed oxygen and a grill sparker in the barrel with the button right under the trigger rod. :-D

Anyway, now I gotta get me a Ti Boomstick! They make those twist-lock, right?

Oxygen wouldn't do anything. Nothing for it to react with. An electical spark in it would just be a blue flash.

If you're saying that you want fire, well, if you can't figure out how to make it, it's probably not responsible to tell you how.

Happens on my Ti Longbow as well (Ti being the important part). Great intimidation factor.

does it work best with paint that is tight down the barrel ? (i would think so since this would generate a higher static-electric charge) what type of paint have you used when it has happened??? I've gotta get this trick to work! haha

I was using blue/yellow rps premium. A tighter fit does give more of a spark. I tried smaller bore walmart paint and it didn't spark. It also happens more often when you shoot faster. (I did some testing obviously)
