    oil

i was working on my old tippmann in my shop (my dad owns and transport company along with the farm) and my mechanic came over and was looking at the oil i was using(splatt i think) and said that it was the same as lightweight hydrollic oil. he asked how much it cost and i tild him the truth it was $13 for 1 fluid oz. he crapped himself and said he could get me hydrolic oil that he says is the same as my paintball gun oil for about $.35 for 1 oz. now i dont want to ignore our mechanic he has been working on machinery and truck for over 50 years but i always understood that alot of stuff was bad for a paintball gun.

so would it be safe to try some other types of oils? like lightweight hydrolic oil or veggie oil and stuff like that or should i keep on paying a fortune in oil made specifically for paintball markers

basically any oil that does not contain solvents should work in a mechanical paintball gun, if you are using CO2 you would probably also want one that is not going to solidify if it comes in contact with liquid CO2.

Any oil that doesnt have solvents will do ok, but i would rather stick to the oil specifically for paintball markers and be totally sure it doesnt hurt my marker. Don't use veggie oil, that stuff tends to dry up after a while.

I use airtool oil. My guns have worked flawlessly for the past 17 years.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

use either KY personal lubricant or touch message, it is thick and gets into those slim places //sarcasm//. No I have used airtool lube before and it works well and much cheaper.

paintball oil= light machine oil in a smaller bottle with a little logo on it. air tool oil is just (IIRC) extreamly light machine oil that is also extra clean.

I hate to say this but I have had pgps since the mid 80's and used WD40 on them for probably 10 years before I knew any better, never replaced an o-ring seal or anything, and for that matter I still haven't. Not sure if its just some marketing hype or not, or maybe they just made things with better o-rings 20 years ago. I now use regular paintball oil as it came with a used gun I bought.

I always used gold cup on my emag, but I've recently switched to silicone oil(AKA lube) since Vikings don't like gold cup... I wouldn't be too worried.

Yeah, I think you got lucky in the fact that the seals in the pgp were not affected by petroleum products. WD40 will kill most types of orings that are used in a lot of the guns.

guess I am lucky but the five are still running... guess its a good thing they don't have o-rings, I wouldn't know because I have never had to take one apart yet, though i'm sure they are due for a good cleaning, the grime is probably keeping them sealed.(haha)
