On/off pin length cause of not firing?

    The situation:

I have 2 Xmags, and as some of you will remember i had some issues with one of them that incorporated not firing in manual mode. I've tried alot of things, and when it seemed to work fine, it didnt a few weeks later.

    The problem:

The xvalve will cock the lvl10 bolt when gassed up and i am able to shoot once in manual mode. But the bolt will not go back all the way, so i have to push it back a little to catch the sear. On the other hand the gun will shoot fine in either emode or hybrid. When i put my finger in front of the bolt, the bolt does stop, but it keeps venting air untill i force it back past the sear.

Since i have 2 xmags i swapped out parts to isolate the problem and soon found that it was something with the valve. I checked everything and eventually i noticed that the on/off pin in the xvalve was longer than the one in my emag valve. (STD Xmag) Swapped it and whattayaknow, problem solved!

    The question:

Can i just file down the pin to the correct length? Or is there a ideal length for the xmag?
The pin in the emag valve is 0.706" and the one in the xvalve is 0.730"

    Thanks for your input!

I have used a grinder to file down my on/off pin. I have done it twice now. Here is the advice others gave me

Thanx!! That helped alot! I allready went ahead and filed it off to about .712 as specified in the xmag manual. Measurements were done with a oldfashioned caliper, so it could be off .002
Next week i'll put it over the chrono, and i'll take my file, sandpaper and caliper with me to do some adjustments if needed.

The thing i don't understand is why the previous owner never bothered with it. The gun really shows very little wear, so my guess is he had the same problem and never bothered solving it. (and used the gun maybe a few times) I have tested the shortened pin, and it fires in manual mode. But the bolt occasionally sticks and i have to press it back with my finger, so maybe it needs to be a little bit shorter.

if your still getting bolt stick you may want to lube up the level 10 oring some more or try going up one more size carrier.

Bolt stick would indicate that you need the next larger carrier with the same carrier oring.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
