Mechanic79 AGD Level X guide says you will still get chops with the stock gold spring and need to use the middle or longest spring for best anti chop results. Of course moving up to the higher pressure springs you need to crank up the reg to compensate which seems is causing walkability issues without paint.

I've always used the longest spring on my emag and x-valves with great results.

It seems many of the posters here use level X with the stock gold spring. How is it on paint? Level 7 is hard on paint even with a foamie. Thanks for any input.
I found the LVL 10 used with shortest spring to be roughly the same as the LVL 7 in terms of paint breakage. However this is offset by the lack of bolt recoil. It's been quite a while since i last used a LVL 7 bolt, but i think the lighter LVL 10 pips the LVL 7 on outright fire power due the LVL 10 being lighter. Less mass/weight to move around i would presume. This is one of the reasons i stayed using the short spring.

indeed, I have had no problems with chopping with the stock spring. of course I amd usually chrono'ed at 280.

springs are tit for tat. a stiffer spring takes more input pressure to overcome it, and the actual air release time gets shortened a bit so you gotta get more air through in a shorter time. anti-chop wise the bolt is a bit more "fine tunable" but really your mostly trading one thing for another.

I have had good luck with the stock spring and here's part of why: reduce the amount of unnecessary friction in the lvl 10 and it will reduce the amount of force needed, keeping the pressure low and the force on the ball lower. use a buna-n o-ring in the carrier instead. (yes I've posted this info many times) it makes it much easier to make the carrier low friction, without it leaking. use as many power tube shims as you can without leaking and that will help with the stock spring.

I didn't realise a buna oring could be used in a carrier! I think i'm going to be doing more testing today. Given the choice, i'd much rather use the short spring as it makes the gun run that little bit better. I'll give it a whirl today.
