    ElectroPnuemag Builders Looky

Alright, I am at a crossroad of what to do for my Electro Pnuemag as far as the solenoid goes. I have narrowed it down to two choices, either the mac solenoid here http://www.airsoldier.com:8080/cgi-b...Code=SOLENOIDS

Or the SMC solenoid here http://www.airsoldier.com:8080/cgi-b...Code=SOLENOIDS

The difference is that with the SMC I will be able to fit everything in the frame or in the rail whereas with the Mac I will have to mount the battery outside of the frame.

So my question is.... Should I go for the ultimate in realiability and adjustability with the Mac, or go with the SMC and get everything inside of the gun? If anyone has experience using these solenoids and what kind of troubles, headaches, or quirks they ran into would be very helpful. Thanks everyone.

I'm planning on using the SMC. I can't speak for that particular one, but SMC is typically very reliable. We use them all the time where I work for process control. I just need to figure out what to do about a board. Any thoughts?

I am using a Freestyle board. They are very small, you can get aftermarkets cheaply or have a stock one flashed with Tagsportz code(what I am doing), it is easy to get wiring harnesses for them, and they are abundant.

Wait a second... the mac valve you have linked there is a 4 way... will you be using a double acting ram?

No, just block off the unused ports.

I'd stick to the SMC. Everything will fit in your frame, plus you won't have the extra ports to worry about blocking off. If you aren't going to use them, why have them?

I used that smc noid. The exact same one you have linked. I used it with an ion board, the ion switch (remotely mounted) and NO capacitor (it uses so little power, compared to the ion noid, it doesn't need one). I mounted it in a UMF. It all fits inside with the battery. It works flawlessly. I put it on max ramp speed, min dwell and it was doing 15bps with no balls. I need to try it next weekend with balls. I am very happy with the SMC.

Pro's: VERY small, Lower power, quick, self-exhausting (unlike ion stock noid), and just sit in frame does not need to be mounted.

Con's: can't find any. Maybe the $48 + shipping. I have found other places that sell it, but they are not in stock and 4-6 weeks to get it from Japan. Call SMC they may have a better distributor, I only tried one.

Lastly, ASP was very smooth, easy website, quick shipping, most stuff in stock.

Thanks Zneaky, that answers alot of the questions I had about the solenoid and its durability. I wanted to hear from someone who had used it and see if it could handle the abuse.

Thanks everyone else for the input, keep it coming if you have it.

                  stoner,

Tell me about the Freestyle board, what gun does it normaly come in, who makes that gun, who makes the board and what Tagsportz code and how can you flash the board to that code?

                  Thanks,

                  Z

The board comes in the Indian Creek Design Freestyle as seen here http://www.icdunderground.net/ and here is a picture of what the board looks like here http://www.paintballtrader.com/Xcart...cat=261&page=1 this is actually the aftermarket Chaos board but they look the same.

I'm not sure who manufactures the board for ICD but you can get aftermarket boards fro Nox, Chaos, and Kila just started making one also.

The Tagsportz code is the Predator coding seen here http://tagsportz.com/ I have it on my older Freestyle and it rocks. You just send in your board with $57.50, $50 for the flash and $7.50 for shipping and they will send it back with the latest software and a programming guide. I have used several different boards and codes and out of all the ones I have used The Predator coding and the Tadao are the easiest to use and set up, and they both rip hardcore.

You can also consider the small SY113 solenoid that airsoldier sells. That's what I'm using, and Iknow a few others have used it too (bigevil I beleive used it in his). The only con about the super tiny solenoid you pointed out is it can't deliver a veyr large amount of volume too quickly. In a mag it will probably be okay, but used in another gun it would make a difference.
Other thing is the plastic hose barb, oppossed to a metal one, but it's a minor point.

Stoner in reply to the board info. I have been doing this on stock ion boards ($15-$30 pbnation). My poor de-soldereing skills have toasted 3 boards and have greatly improved.

I purchased a Ion Virtue board and have been waiting til this point to desolder all the componets. (I toast a $30 board no biggie, I toast a $125 board biggie.)

If you are familiar with the Virtue Board, it has like a million firing modes (crazy stuff like break mode... first pull is full auto 15 bps and every pull after that is ramp to 15) they make a virtue for all the "so called tourney guns". I bought it used for $90. I think it is a cheaper way to do this project, only down side is be good at de-soldering or find some one who is.

I will explore all the links, but (price of freestyle) x + 57.50 + (Eyes) y = more than $90

                        Z

PS I have done nothing with the eyes yet, but they sit all call to me, "You know your mag wants to SEE!!!"

I used the smc113 from ASP and it serve me well so far, I would suggest use this instead of the other small noid in the link b/c it only had 50psi of max input, might be good enough for valve with ult (not sure),
tommorow I am going to test my noid to see wherether it can handle more pressure (75psi max input) to trip the rt on/off.

I've got a question about the SY113. Does it have porting on the valve itself or does it have to use a manifold? Do barbs actually screw into the valve?

Sorry for the dumb question, I've just never really messed around with solenoids before.

                              im using the SY113 too
its threaded for M3 barbs, i would suggest this solenoid over the smaller one too
