    Back to Basics tournament

I'm trying to pitch the idea to the field owners, since we have had absolutely no luck getting any teams to sign up for out other tournaments (60$ a case, 60$ entry, 6 tournament days, jerseys/masks/packs/markers for winners) on a brand new xball field. I just wanted to use you guys as a sounding board before I sent it off

    Back to Basics :
1 day tournament round robin style
    60$ A case
    20$ Entry fee (per team)
    Winner gets the pot.

    Rules:
    3 man
    Standard rule set and points
    3 minute games
1 game per match until finals where it switches to best of 3(maybe)
If a player registers and is without team one will be found for him, no one gets left.

    Gear restriction:
Players may use ONLY the field markers (In this case 98s)
Players may not use their own hoppers
Players may use their own tanks
Players may use their own masks
Players may use their own packs

Players are limited to 9 pods for the entire team. Distribution is not regulated

The idea behind it is that alot of kids go "omg they have such good guns, why bother trying" so this effectively negates that. The kids who are all about their guns will naturally stay away as well too. Ideally I want to rope in the guys that don't play tournament ball and would like to. The average walk on if you will. That way when we do run a "real" tourney again there will be some support. No team no problem, no gear no problem. All you need is a desire to play

    The obvious downsides :
"Omg that team has too many good players"
    "Omg I can't use my dm839"
"Why can't I use the gear I paid for?"
"I want to be with just my friends, why is this smelly new guy with us?"
"I don't want to be with 3 people I don't know, they might comment on my smell"

    I really like it

my only gripe would be that I own a purely mechanical marker - why cant I use it?

Lets face it, the thing you are eliminating is the ramping electro's - so full mech should be allowed.

I really like the idea. I don't think it would go over to well with the hardcore tourney guys cause they want to use their own stuff. Other than that it think it would be really fun. Keeps the playing field level marker wise and makes it so personal and team skill wins it.

Because it eliminates a lot of the problems. Ramping electros are only one problem. Bouncing mech guns are also a problem. However, with ramping electros all the rage they don't get the same "press". Remove the ramping electros and they could become a problem again.

Also, making everyone use the same marker removes any advantage the marker might give. Seems like a great idea to me. However, as too many players are found of their markers it probably won't work. I don't even know how I could play without a warp...

it sounds like the idea isnt to get the current players that play tourneys involced, but get the players that have WANTED to but are worried about the equipment gap.

I for one think its great. I could think of alot of players that would get involved if they felt the playing field was more "even".

One adjustment i would make is to allow players to use their own guns.......if its a pump.

Local field has tried that and other variations of limited tech, or mech only games. It was met with mediocre intrest. Lots of people saying how nice it would be and then didn't register.

In the "bring your own" mech category, all RT, and pneu. trigger systems were not allowed.

Bring your own mech would be nice, but the problem again comes from the intimidation factor. I certainly wouldn't want to run around with a stock 98 while some one with a cocker was on the other end. To a new player he sees a shiny, fancy marker in the hands of some one wearing a jersey and speedball pack with a 14 inch carbon fiber barrel and hpa and regulator and all that jazz...He immediately needs new pants. Some one bringing their own marker would have a huge advantage over a player using a stock 98, even if skills were about the same. the 699 bore (iirc) of the 98 on 687 paint with direct siphon co2 vs a cocker with good paint to barrel match, a good hpr and a hpa tank.

I can definately for see the whole "yeah I will play" and have no one sign up thing happening...but that's just community and can't do anything bout it ~.~

This type event is best for charity events...if you are a tournament player then you are going to want to win, so you want to use your gear and you want to play with the people that you know you can win with.

                        Bring on the Mechs

I think its a great idea except for only using rental markers.
Maybe the field could charge extra if you use your own but make it mech only (no pneumags).
bet you'd get a bunch of pumpers show up if you did that.

Really we could probably achieve the same thing with only a shake and bake style hopper, might be a bit easier to get folks out there with that. Again it's hard to explain to the kid with the 21inch sniper barrel that a guy with an ego and a guy with a tippmann will pretty much be shooting at the same rate.

As for serious tourament players, we don't have any. We have 4-5 "teams" that like to post on the forums but they never actually put their money where their mouth is.
