When I first started, it was a spectacular feeling. The adrenaline rush as I ran and dove to my first bunker was beyond exhilarating. I could feel my heartbeat through my teeth, and time had slowed to a trickle. My brain was in overdrive, and was in a constant battle with the fear that was attempting to work its way through my system
It was unlike anything I had ever felt.
It quickly grew from there. I played as often as I could, and tried to learn all information available. These five years I've played, I was a sponge, working to learn the past, present, and future of paintball. It was then that I found something something saddening.
I had missed it, the golden age of paintball, and the golden age of Airgun Designs. Emags were gone. Xmags were gone. Precision was put aside for plastic, quality for quantity. The growth of the sport was turned to a quest for the almighty dollar. I had missed it, and it could be a long time until I could see it again.
Unless, of course, I do something about it.
So why do I deserve the SFL?
I deserve the SFL because I am the evolution of the paintballer. I am the one who will lift his hand when shot, and congratulate the shooter on a successful shot. I am the one who will invoke knowledge, tactics, and strategies, while others may not. I am the one who will hand over his spare pod of paint, who will lay cover for others to move. I am the one who will awe others, and help them learn how to move, how to think, how to shoot, until they can awe others themselves. I am the man who will spend his meager earnings to dive into the dirt and fight as if his life depended on it, knowing his enemy will do the same. I am the one who will bruise, the one who will ache, the one who will bleed, and the one who will smile knowing it was not in vain.
You might think me insignificant, you might think me hopeless, but I am the one who will lead paintball to the new golden age, and I will do it with the SFL I deserve.
