Ah gots me a little project.....

My buddy that is headed to Iraq sent me his paintball gear to hold on to and use a bit while he is gone. Not that I need it, mostly just to keep the dust knocked off and make sure it stays operational.
He plays very little. About the only time he does is when we get together and play here, or at MOUT. Unfortunatly the field close to him is one that we had a really bad experience at.

I am going to go ahead and warn you. This has to do with a Smart Part product. If you feel the need to spam my post with a bunch of hate, I would really appreciate you just clicking the back button now.

I am going to play around with and upgrade this little Ion he owns while I have it. I had thought to pretty much make it into a whole other marker. I am going to have it for at least three years, and when I hand it back I want him to think its a completly different marker. In essence it will be.

So the first thing I am trying to hunt down is an Alien body kit by New Designz.

Red is apparently the only color left out there. If the body kit I find comes with the reg cover, I probably will not replace the stock reg. They seems to work pretty well other than being a pain in the butt to adjust.

    It already has a Qlock.

I need a good frame and trigger combination. Looking around I notice that many of them are gone. Like the SITH for instance. I am hoping to find one that has a 90* ASA. Any suggestions would be appreciated in that department.

Also have been looking into putting in a cocker threaded breech.

Thinking black for that to complement the red body. This way I will be able to use the red stiffi mamba that I currently have no use for.

The only other thing that I am really knowledgable about at all is putting in a QEV. I am not sure that there is even a need to upgrade the board as the stock one seems to work fine for what it will be used for. I am not at all familiar with bolt kits either.

So any help or suggestions on dressing this little bugger up would be appreciated.

I wonder what guns will be like in 3 years. You may be well advised to just wait as prices will most likely fall on those parts.

NDZ makes great upgrades. Definitely get the cocker threaded NDZ breach. Really, everything NDZ makes is awesome. If you just made him an NDZ Ion, that would be pretty cool. Here's a good list:

NDZ Cocker Breach + Firing Can
        NDZ Skeleton Bolt
        NDZ Swivel Donut
        NDZ Scorpion Frame
NDZ Trigger (There are various styles)
        NDZ QEV
And of course, Kila Reaction Detents

Seriously though, NDZ makes great products. Thank your friend for me btw.

Yes, I had looked at that scorpion frame. It seems to be pretty much what I am looking for. I like that you can get them milled for the membrane pad. I am already ticked off at this stupid on/off button. I guess that will have me looking for aftermarket boards that support the pad....

What is a swivel donut and what is it for?

cool idea. I am in the process of fixing up an A-5 I have in my bag for a friend to try to get him back in the sport.

Take it slow and buy the parts used of PBN and you can fully upgrade that thing for less than 200 bucks probably...

Also gonna agree that it might be a good idea to wait since 3 years is a lifetime in the paintball world and you could see alot of changes in prices and gear in that time.

Yeah, you never know how much prices could fall even after a year. Of course then you lose some products and then they get rare, ect
I'd try the deadlywind bolt and there are apparently some options to modify the firing can that can help a lot with efficiency.

Yes that is a problem I am already running into with the alien body. It already has a limited selection at a good price.

I am really not sure what to think. I mean, does keeping the dust off your Ion have anything to do with kneepads?

A friend of mine has the Scorpion grip frame. Has had it about a year. We don't play that often, once, maybe twice a month. His grip started leaking horrible. He took it to his local proshop and they had it over a month and a half and couldn't find out what his problem was. Turns out, it was the O-ring inside his 15 degree forward ASA where the reg screws in. They told him they couldn't fix it because its an odd diameter or oval o-ring. He's bringing it to me to fix since he apparently can't figure out the size. Just something to be aware of in the Scorpion frame.
