I'd still get the mini. The rails are nice guns, need some care though with the spool valve... should be lubed every few times you use it. I don't know anything about the DP, and I wouldn't get it just because there isnt much of a support base for it that I know of. Get a mini.

The only complaints I've had with a Mini is that it just felt too small and the lack of mass didn't help when I was snap shooting since I guess I have a tendency to pull up a hair (then again moving from an Excal to the Mini will create odd movements in the wrist)

At this point, I 'd say start looking for deals on the guns you are considering and just go for the best price. I haven't heard anything but good about either and I'd venture to say that either one will serve your father's purpose well.

just an FYI, most mixed reviews on Mini's are from gen 1 and 2. if you buy brand new, you should get gen 3 everything. just picked up a sunset orange last weekend and the gen 3 flies circles around any mini i have ever owned.

if you decide with the PMR i HIGHLY and STRONGLY suggest you get the UL Frame for it. the stock frame and trigger are trash. but that is my opinion, along with many others.

Dangerous Power is a nice company. i have only heard great things about there guns. however i have not owned one to put it through the ringer. with that being said, i have test fired one and it is a very comfy and quick shooting gun. but that is based off of a threshold and a g3.

definetly, the trigger has a stronger magnet for a crisper trigger. the 1.2 boards solved most issues with electronics (still does not have anti mechanical bounce software though) and the v3 poppet with spring behind it have virtually eliminated all blow back unless the mini is set up improperly. also with the spring behind the poppet it has made the mini more consistent.

like the mag there is next to nothing to do with the gun after market wise. except for cosmetic things. however there is a v2 bolt and spring kit from NDZ that gets you maybe 200-400 more shots and less kick depending on how you tune it. but there is very little kick to begin with.

also, KEE has AMAZING customer support for the mini. most if not all issues are solved immediately for free once you call them.

are you able to shoot all the markers? feel all the markers?

A Mag. He deserves it. Better yet, let me ask this. What do you think HE wants or would like?

Why? This IS a MAG Forum after all.

Go Viking. He will love it after two or three shots. Never mind the weight.

While I love my Mag and my Viking (when I had it...never should have let it go), I'm going to have to say an ICD ProMaster.

You can find them NIB for $125 on Ebay...I bought one for $139 brand new off Action Village. They're very light and will definately sling paint, all for about 1/4 the price of anything else listed.

In case you're wondering, this was originally a $400 gun until ICD went out of business. With the Promaster though, everything is machined aluminum, no plastic or stamped metal parts like other guns in its price range (Ion, Proto SLG, etc.).
                      My feedback

Made in USA - it matters.

Well if you've got a mag you've dealt with regulators

And that is false, you don't have to grease F7's after every use. That's preposterous. You don't have to grease them more than any other stacked tube poppit valve electro.

Other good electros in that price range are the Proto SLG and Proto Matrix Rail. But yes. Dangerous Power is a great company.

HUH? I mean a mag is one of the most upgradable markers next to an autococker.. The mini is basicly the same as every other elctro... Veedneck, grips, bolt, barrel, trigger...

i meant performance wise. every gun can be cosmetically changed almost infinitely. but performance wise, with the xvalve and level 10 (which is pretty much stock now a days) there is no performance boost. same with the mini, the only thing there is, is a few after market bolts that due little to nothing. they reduce the weight of the bolt by 5-6 GRAMS! the only upgrade the mini's have that make a huge difference in performance is the new designz spring kit. and thats only because the blue spring (lightest spring) reduces what very little kick there is and also makes it softer on paint, but in exchange the blue spring can barely go over 16-17bps with out issues. not that its really needed to shoot that fast though.

Feedneck, grips, barrel, triggers are all what the user wants for looks and feel. nothing performance wise.

FYI the mini feedneck is a very good stock clamping feedneck. and the stock barrel is pretty darn accurate as well. (looks aside)

Just because I'm mean, I'm going to throw a wrench into the works.

Have you thought about an Alien Interceptor? I have owned at least 25 different markers, including spendy high ends like X-mags, E-mags, Egos, Timmies, which have all cost me 1k+ out of my pocket. But here is my $350 05 Alien Interceptor that shoots far better than any other marker I have ever owned. Customer service is outstanding, Jack is a great guy to talk to about business.
