Can you fill CO2 tanks with a scuba tank? I know that its prolly not a good idea, but if you only put 2000 psi or so into it, would that work, and would it be worth the risk?

NO. It would not be worth the risk..you would have a bomb waiting to go off. Actually, most likely what would happen is that you would blow your burst disc and have no air in the tank. Not to mention that you'd have to come up with some sort of adaptor to be able to fill the tank in the first place. -
I don't think you'd be able to find someone with an adaptor to put CO2 into a SCUBA tank. The valve on a SCUBA tank isn't designed for sub-zero liquid. Also, you need a dip tube assisted CO2 tank to do paintball fills (it sucks liquid from the bottom of the bulk tank). There is no SCUBA tank that has one of these.
As far as the blow up problem, Co2 doesn't get much more then 1000psi (normaly around 800-850) while regular SCUBA tanks can take around 3000psi."Relax. Don't worry. Have a Home Brew."

TheTramp, I think he was talking about using compressed air in a CO2 thank, not putting CO2 in a Scuba Tank.As far as the blow up problem, Co2 doesn't get much more then 1000psi (normaly around 800-850) while regular SCUBA tanks can take around 3000psi.Comment

The 3300 80cf AL tank is the way to go. I wouldn't spend more than $100 on a used one WITH a new hydro test on it. $80 is more what I've seen. You will find that when you fill it the tank will heat up. Between the fill and the paintball field the presure will drop. With a 3300 you be up around 3000 or 3100 when you get around to filling with it. To many bulk fills (starting with very low pressure) will lower the pressure a lot. However, you can do quite a few top-offs. I find that you can easily play a speedball game with 2000 or so - depending on how much you shoot.
The ideal setup is to have two tanks - one for bulk fill and one for top-off. Having two fill stations is nice but not required. This will support 3 or 4 players for a day of rec ball. More players, you need more tanks. As they drop in pressure rotate the tanks from top-off to bulk and crack the seal on a new tank for top-off.
Our club has a 6000 N2 tank with a regulator, so we all fill to 3000 before we head to the field and then top off with scuba tanks. We have 3 tanks to support about 8 - 10 players, but we really need another tank.
Never EVER try to fill a CO2 bottle with high pressure air. Use ONLY bottles that are rated at the full pressure of the source unless you have a reg to limit the fill pressure. If you WANTED to fill a CO2 bottle with air, you would have to limit it to about 1200 psi. You could do that with a regulator and a home-brew rig (QD nipple, some hose and fittings). Won't do you much good though. A CO2 bottle is pretty small and 1200 psi might get you a couple hundred shots.

PS been a while since I looked at a CO2 bottle, they might be rated at 1800 psi rather than 1200, don't remember. Either way still isn't going to give many shots.

Thanks for the info guys. I don't really want to blow my hand off with a tank, so I will avoid the CO2 for now. Is it worth it to get a scuba? I have a 4500 114 Nitro duck, and my bro has a 88/4500 PMI. We would both be filling from the station. I realize that as the scuba goes down the fills go down, and therefore you get less shots every time.
the question is:
Is it worth it to get a scuba? I play a lot of woods ball, and am away from a place to fill (that is why I have such a large tank)AIM 'thlibo'

Many dive shops will have you sign a waiver that you will use the tank for paintball (and not scuba). I have my cert so not an issue for me.Comment

up to your knee. Scuba tanks were meant to be carried on the back underwater, so they are not huge.AIM 'thlibo'

I don't think anyone knows what kind of tank you are asking about. SCUBA or Compressed Nitrogen? I'll take a stab at it though.
CN? yes youc an get from welding shop. Rent it? yes you can. Buy it? If you got lots of money you can.
Size well you mean pressure then? If you got the fill station for it then 6000 psi.
If not and you are talking lower pressure tanks the I would go SCUBA and SCUBA fill station. Cheaper in the long run so why not. But you will not find these at the Welding Shop I should think. Think SCUBA shop for this. Or even PB Stores are now selling them...or get em online?Comment

yea i guess i wasnt clear enough. i dont really know what im talking about myself. but is there anything i should look for in a scuba tank? any kind to stay away from? so all i would need is a scuba tank and a fill station?

Yes, thats all you need. Well you might want some stuff to protect the tank. A valve cover and a boot maybe. Thats cheap enough
Get the 80 Cubic Foot Neutral Bouyancy 3300 PSI Aluminum one if you can.
If buying used then you want to look at the hydro date and make sure it within five years and pay accordingly to how much time is left and I would look for one that has a VIP within the year. Lots of stuff here on that if you do a search.
