I like it. Now to wait for the depreciation / too stupid to fix it kiddies that buy it.

I got to shoot one this weekend for a little bit.Originally posted by Spider-TWHas anyone seen a Luxe on the field? How are they doing? I think I play with the wrong crowd to know.
Its nice. Real nice.
Though, the board function, with the speaker is quite annoying.
Rumor has it that a OLED Yakuza board will be eventually made for one. If thats the case - I might have to find one...

Will it do game timing and low battery warnings? Those are the only two things I can think of that I would want to hear instead of look at.Originally posted by behemothThough, the board function, with the speaker is quite annoying.
The new impulse doesn't talk does it?

Luxes are rediculiously nice. They are fabulously balanced, easily the most ergonomic marker I have ever held. The firing system is basically a refined shocker. Which I consider a good thing, since I have loved my shockers. The luxes are very very quiet and good on paint. Try one out if you get the chance.Originally posted by Spider-TWHas anyone seen a Luxe on the field? How are they doing? I think I play with the wrong crowd to know.
I too can deal without the talking board. But you can disable that feature.
Only thing turning me off from them is the price tag, but, hey, some people have got it like that, so, more power to them.
For now I am sticking with my 07 ego, it always performs better than I could ask it to. But at the same time, I am excited anytime new technology is integrated into markers, it means eventually I will be able to afford it

I have yet to see where SP (or anyone for that matter) has made "new technology" in the marker industry.
Last time I followed up on most guns,.. all the types were already made.
Everyone is simply making the older designs turn to "improved concepts".
It looks sleek,.. and maybe it will be a nice marker. But the price is way too steap.
The whole bottom line ASA/no forward cradle ability like the Mini kills this for me though. I rather like having choices for shortening my marker with a drop forward. Bottles close to my chest and guns far away from my face arent my strong selling point.

Magnetic eye covers
Hinged eye covers
Talking boards
Pop top bolt removal
Putting a hpr and lpr in a frame
All new technologies.
And the improvements made in existing technologies are notable as well in my opinion.
May I point out that the Luxe does offer a rail option even though the air is ran through the frame. Most people use this to make their marker longer, but I assume you could reverse it and make your marker shorter. And if that still doesnt do it for you, you always have the option of not using the air through frame option and throwing on your own drop forward and regulator.
I could only assume the same rail option will be available for the impulse. Although, I am not sure using your own reg will be an option.
You really can not pick up a luxe and not think that it is a very well thought out and very well designed marker.

I got an old inpulse I'll sell youOriginally posted by mostpeopleI think I'd rather buy an original impulse, as that probably wouldn't break as easily as this POS.
Then again I would be buying a SP marker... and we all know I ain't buyin that junk!
and lets just think of that as my "mistake" you dont have to give SP any money I already did that long ago before I knew about mags... now I own 3 xmags
all you'd be doing is sharing in my misery... and you know what they say... misery loves company

Location of a working component isnt a real ground breaker here. You talking about an existing marker being re-engineered,... of course there will be changes.Originally posted by 68magOwnerPutting a hpr and lpr in a frame
The location of the HP regulator had to be moved,.. where else are they going to put something like that when they cut out the tubes and tray from the old design?
The marker was re-designed for changes,.... not for newer technologies. The Luxe used magnetic eye covers,... thats a advancement in eye cover retention,.. but it doesnt change the core function of the eyes which is what eye covers help enhance,.. the eyes. The new Impulse uses a recent developement of magnetic eye covers with an new advancement of on gun eye cover retention.
The introduction of break beam eyes was a technological change. The introduction of electronics to paintball was a technological change. They can all be called enhancements as well,.. but these items gave birth to more than just one single future enhancement.
Same thing with the talking board. Whats the difference in the way that one board communicates to the user of how they setup their electronic settings? Counting blinking lights wasnt a break through when it came along, either was the color codes every tech had to commit to memory each time a new board came out. Because a board talks instead of "chirping" shouldnt constitute a brand for being a new technology. Its the same technology re-designed. WDP did the same thing with scrolling OLED text on their guns......
I dont want to make it sound like Im hating on SP,.. I would say the same exact thing to Tom Kaye if he showed us a new AGD marker that didnt use the single piece regulator/body/rail system. If it was the same concept just moved around in location and named different I would hold the same flag up. "Show me how you made thins marker better than the one before it through technological changes not used by markers of today."

Cool. A bunch of innovations to solve nonexistent problems.
The valve and cycling operation sound interesting though.
This could turn out to be an extremely quiet gun.
Still not interested in any guns where the bolt/chamber are exposed to the elements though.
How long do you think it will be until someone falls on their gun and SP realizes the stabbing hazard in the back was a really stupid idea?"Accuracy by aiming."
Definitely not on the A-Team.

who the hell decided every innovation had to solve a problem? how about just making things easier?

Who decided everyone needs to whine about new products?
If you dont like it, dont buy it.
If SP is good at one thing, its making money. Any paintball gun you pick up does the same damn thing. It puts paint downrange. I can do the same thing with a 2,000 dollar super gun, that i can with a 30 dollar gun from walmart.
Now that we have tried and true designs in the paintball industry, and have a general idea on what works, and what flops - Its all in the refining of that platform from there...
If SP (or dye, or pe, or macdev, or anyone) wants to add little gimmicks and doo-dads to their guns, and it sells for them - Awesome.
If some people dont like it, then they can bite their tongue, and keep using their old gun that does the same exact thing, just differently.

Being able to take a pressurized bolt, and just pop it out of a spool valve marker in a fraction of a second without using any tools is a pretty good design IMO.Originally posted by p8ntbal4meI dont think the direction you remove a bolt is ground breaking work here. If you are going to take each individual advancement and talk down about it, then no, nothing signifigant has happened in the world of markers in the last 5 years.
But if you compare the shocker 4X4 to its latest iteration (the luxe) there is a huge difference in what a player is capable of doing with one over the other. I do not mean that the luxe is going to get a paintball from one end of the field to the other any better than the luxe, but you can handle, maintain, maneuver, gunfight, etc. much better with the luxe.
We are making progress with markers. Comparing one year to another may not be a huge difference, but over time, we are getting better, more reliable, lighter, cooler machines.
