So instead of cracks we may get shatters?

shatters and instead of welts you would maybe get small tears in the skin (much like a point blank shot on skin)

I don't know, frankly I am not as smart as the people doing the formulas I base some of my comments off of. I would not be as quick to dismiss the good likelihood that they are going to push for a higher velocity limit once they find out this does not work (again) assuming they cannot improve the formula - you know, just to help all the agglets who bought it because they said it was better .

That being said the current bags call for not exceeding 300FPS still.

This seems to be really out there. Lasoya did a video showing the nano50 shooting and said that you can fit 480 balls in a normal torque loader and 400 in a standard 120 round pod. Somehow that doesnt seem possible, I mean the ball is only .18 in smaller and you get over double the copacity. I guess you have to see the video for yourself.

Check the volume of the spheres at .68 and .50. The volume (and mass and energy for equal fill) of a .50 is right at 40% of a .68.

If they jack the speed up, the shell will need to thin out because you've made the energy equal to the 68 for ballistics reasons but the impact is on a smaller area. Considering the problems we get with 68 shell consistency, this will be a patentable trick of real or imaginable magnitude.

Equivalent energy will not get you equivalent breakage. Paintballs break around their middle, not at the point of contact (usually). That's where the red ring-worm circles come from, all the shell and fill exploding around the edges. When you shrink a sphere, the volume shrinks faster than surface area (r cubed vs r squared). So you have more shell (structure) and less fill (stuff that helps break the structure on impact).

The point there being that you can't just make the shell proportionately thinner in size, it has to be even thinner to equal the breaking point of a larger sphere.

ya, i am glad i havent kept up with stuff lately

as to the needing new masks and the like, lets revisit physics 101 f=m*a. lighter mass can get more speed and give the same force. a mask is not stopping something at X fps, it is stopping X force. any way masks are made a lot stronger than we need them, and rightly so. there was even a guy that shot a v force lens at almost point blank with a 40 cal and it didnt penetrate (lens was out of the mask tied down but it supposedly was real and i believe it from the abuse my vforces got when i reffed )

so with out researching any of this i am getting that fart parts is trying to bring 50 cal balls out because it will be cheaper and you can cary more. ok its good in theory except like has been said the mass conversion and the fact that we will always have 68 cal markers being used
