    WTF is with Airsofters?

So I was out at my local outlaw field last weekend when a good 40+ airsofters show up and start playing at the other end of the field. Then they just begin expanding their game into our paintball match wearing nothing more than goggles! what a bunch of jackasses! Furthermore they start randomly shooting paintball players after our guys volley out a few paintball rounds they stop since the little gravel that their guns sling at each other is almost painless, while a paintball will hurt significantly more. We stop playing for the safety precaution since they aren't wearing masks, and they keep playing. At first I was very pissed off and almost walked over to the guy who seemed to be in charge to give him a piece of my mind. But before I did I decided to watch the game a little.

These morons actually treat their game like it is a legit war, they are shouting "Seargent! get your men to the front on the double" etc... also if somebody gets shot they call out medic and some other loser comes over and they clasp arms for a minute and surprise surprise he's miraculously healed!

After laughing at these wannabe GI Joes for a bit and making them feel self conscious I went over and told their leader to get off our field, he told me that they had more people so it wasn't our field. I then calmly laughed at him and informed him that we would continue playing in 60 seconds and if one of their guys got shot, it wasn't my problem. After some guy got shot in the back of the head they left back to their end thank goodness.

Why do Airsofters always strut around like they are Navy SEALS? What a joke.

I don't mind airsoft all that much, I can see why kids get in to it but yeah the whole military thing gets to be a little much sometimes. I was reffing an airsoft game one time, and they are playing a game of center flag, and they start by sitting and formulating a plan with flanks, and sniper support... I took this one kids gun and told him to sprint to the flag and bring it back and he gets it and all his teammates run out of the base and down the field...

The variety of games that they play is a lot cooler than what we end up doing at the field when paintball plays, its rather lazy, always the same 3 games in slightly different order to "mix it up". Airsoft wouldn't be so bad if they toned down the military nonsense, it just doesn't work because the "leaders" are ordering around people that either don't understand or just wanna go shoot someone. Some places have strict rules on how you have to wear BDU's and such which just pushes away a lot of new players because airsoft is a relatively low budget game (compared to paintball) and then they have to spend money on a costume to wear while playing.

Why is our GAME any more important or real than theirs?

I agree, the game is just as valid as ours, I just see some flaws in its execution, but it's still a game just as ours is.

Luke, I don't think he's saying that's its more REAL than theirs. I have no beef with the players, but I personally don't like the fact that you can go through 1500 little bitty pellets so fast, and that you can carry thousands more. Nor do I like that you can run full auto and there is never a way to "mark" the person when hit. I guess you could say there is more honor in it, but then again, there is more chance to say that it didn't hit you. I was playing PB vs AS before and was in a briar bush that no paint was going to get through... some AS'r was just spraying into the bush and with all of the balls bouncing around and in yeah some hit me, but they weren't direct shots which would mean splatter. With any amount of clothing on you can't feel them hit you, and if you are shot by someone sneaky then they don't want to give up their location to tell you that they just shot you and have to argue about it. At least with paint there is proof that you got hit, even if you didn't feel much of anything.

I like games that not only allow you to be honorable but force you to as well.

I mean in a real war, if you plan on hiding behind a bush or plastic barrel or wooden pallet while 1500 rounds of 223 come your way, sounds like to me you're gonna be on the losing side... I don't play any of the GAMES as a real life thing. I don't care for mil-sim... It's not. I think the best thing to do would be play PB and if ya got shot in the leg you get tased in the leg, shot in the arm tased in the arm... oh and not be allowed to use either afterwards... Anywho..

I've played and enjoyed airsoft since the mid 90s. I like tinkering with airsoft guns almost as much as paintball markers, sometimes even more, and you can still read some of my "why we play, what we play with" articles on Red Wolf from 2002-2005 when I was a wholesaler for them... I think it is a different sport than paintball, and I appreciate the realism involved in more tactically oriented games.

That said, whenever I go to a course set up "paintball style" with a flat field fee, I find that 50% of the players are uptight jerks, 25% are brainless, and the rest basically this guy:

That's not to say that I don't like airsoft players; just that I like backyarders and plinkers, as well as serious scenario players. In between, not so much.

I don't play paintball to be GI Joe, and I also respect their turf. If they are playing on part of the field, I keep my guys all the way down on the other end. Everytime these jokers show up they think they can just force us out.

I don't think Paintball is REAL, I wanna be real I go shoot my REAL guns. The point is I thought it was hilarious how seriously they take their game. Paintball is a sport, these guys treat airsoft like Modernized LARPing. In fact, thats exaclty what it is.

I'm sure there are a lot of airsofters that are respectful and don't take their game too seriously, but the guys in our area... Well they definitely think they are GI Joe. I just hope that Gandalf and the battleguarders don't show up and start a war with the airsofters...

btw, frizzlefry, that picture is freaking hilarious.

I used to play paintball with a dude who was a dead ringer for that guy (albeit 10 years older), and I've been using that picture to harass him for years.

Actually, the guy was a great player who didn't take himself too seriously... His softgear was $150 motley assortment of yard sale and Army/Navy store finds, and he jury rigged most of his marker related stuff for maximum function over form. The guy had the sweetest A5 I've ever shot (uglier than most, though) and was the first person I know to buy a Tac8 (and he used it right). He was an airsoft-er too, but didn't take it too seriously and while he'd get into it with a throat mic and tactical gear, off the field he was just your average dude.

Believe it or not...we have people like that in the military. They don't last long. If they somehow make it out of boot camp. They usually weed them out in AIT or their first duty station.

The military has a fatboy program installed. If your not improving (slimming down) then they chapter you out.

I think the limit is/was 35% body fat.

A lot of the older coastguard deskwarmers (no offense, you guys do most of the real work ) were really big, but not that big. They rode my *** HARD in boot and I lost about 25lbs (gained back and then some since leaving) and I definitely saw some big guys leave because they couldn't get over that hump. I'm seriously thinking a 2nd time through boot would be a good thing for me to drop some weight the good way.

A friend of mine went and visited china and the airsofthers there would have made those guys look like school yard punks. These guys guns shoot so hard its common to use Kevlar for protection and full face masks like paintball.I don't remember what all he told me about it but the impression I got was it was hard core and made paintball look like nothing as far as pain/tactics.

trying to find a picture he took with 2 guys (all geared up) pointing guns at him while hes on his knees with his hands on his head.
