I think htat there was a thread a few months back about this. It was comparing more than just the rotor and prophecy. I ended up with a prophecy for $100 right when the dropped the price. I too was considering the Rotor, but when it came down to it these were MY comparing points, and the Prophecy outweighed the Rotor in my opinion:

    1. Price: Prophecy was $50 less - Pretty big factor
    2. Capacity: Prophecy holds 240 stock, Rotor was sub 200 (I think like 175, right?) - This was another big factor for me. I don't mind the extra weight of paint in the hopper, and I love having an extra 60 or so shots. It allows me to shoot more before reloading, DUH!! haha
    3. Size: Rotor is smaller and tighter and looks a little better, IMO. - Not a big factor, since the size difference isn't too much. You can find outline comparisons on PBN. They were pretty helpfull. They also did a huge comparison there about features.
    4. Durability: Rotor appears to be more durable, but I saw the Empire video online and they took a hammer to the prophecy shells, and they didn't break. Enough for me - This was a wash

Overall, for me, the results skewed towards the Prophecy. Everyone has a difference opinion.

Also, notice that I didn't list anything about speed. I don't really care about that. I never play anything other than semi. IMO I feel like I am cheating if I use ramping or burst or full auto. And my fingers max out at 15bps. At least that is what the new XMag I got is saying. So I figured that both can easily sustain 15bps, so I was happy. Everyone is different, so when it comes down to it, it's your decision. But not a bad idea to hear everyone's reasons. That's what I did, then did my own analysis when I felt I had all of the facts. Good luck. Either way, I think you will be happy. Just a matter of whether you will be happy with an extra $50 in your pocket

BTW, my post is in response to the initial question, not the discussion that has ensued. Thank you

Well I wasn't looking to buy a new Rotor but the more I think about it.....I don't like the idea of shelling out $80-100 for a used Rotor when I can spend the same and get a Prophecy.

Fortunately the people I'm playing with tomorrow have both so I'm going to check them out closely and make my decision from there. Thanks fellas

Best idea!! If they don't mind, you should try to borrow each one for one game and see how you like it.

Definitely try before you buy if you can.

Personally I chose the Prophecy over the Rotor and it's performed excellently. Only problems I had with it were from bad settings, but tinkering with a Prophecy shouldn't be hard for someone than can tune a ULT or Lvl X. Nope, the batteries don't last as long as a Rotor, but the higher capacity with lower profile sold it for me. And since Prophecies have dropped in price you can pick one up much cheaper than a Rotor.

I feel like the dude 4 years ago with an apache 2k2 looking at all those fancy halos Velocity Jrs on the field.

I love my Jr, its never failed me and has always fed fast enough for my redonkulous gas eating fire breathing RTs.

I bought a Prophecy last spring - and the #1 reason I bought it was that my Vlocity ate two circuit boards, so I decided to try something new rather than keep shelling out dough for new circuit boards. I was delighted with the Vlocity's perfomance until that point.

Anyway, I like my Prophecy a whole lot more.

The one thing that often gets overlooked in the Proph vs. Rotor debate is capacity. The Rotor holds about 175 stock, the Prophecy holds about 240 stock. That's approximately 65 extra balls in a loader that is no taller or wider, and is in fact lighter than a Rotor. The extra capacity is added in length - something that does not increase your profile as a target.

At 10bps, that's an additional 6.5 seconds that you can shoot off the break before you need to reload. As you all know, a lot can happen in the first 30 seconds of a speedball match...

i honestly dont know. the prophecy beat the pants off it at 150, and now that its only 100 bucks, there isn't even a comparison.

prophecy is way faster, more gentle on paint, does reballs better, lighter, shorter, smaller at 200rds or much larger capacity, way better speedfeed ...

there isn't even a comparison in my mind. the rotor just doesn't stand a chance technologically.

^^That, hype, and the fact that many people are afraid of anything more complicated than the process of changing a lightbulb.

Just to throw some different opinions. Our group, 3 rotors, 2 prophecies is now on the road to 5 rotors. When the temperature hit the low teens the prophecies started chopping terribly. Put on the rotor and the a rope of paint was coming out of the barrel.

Granted in true speed test the prophecies is probably faster but we found the rotor was generally better on paint chopping, battery life and ease of use. After spending 30 minutes fiddling with magnets it got old real quick.

If you need capacity the Prophecy wins there, you can add larger shells than the rotor and stock it comes with more. Simplicity goes to the rotor, price is def in the prophecies court. Speedfeed to the prophecy, you can get a decent speedfeed for the rotor but it looks terrible. The prophecies speedfeed looks great and is super simple to change.

In the end for hoppers it came down to simplicity and ease of use for me, your mileage and experiences may vary. I can tell you when it was cold there were 5 of us and when the rotor guys ran out of paint or were shot out we handed the rotors to other team mates until we came back. Up until then between our group it had pretty much been an even split on the two.

^^Do you mean the Prophecy is chopping paint inside the loader? Or do you mean your gun is chopping?

Because when setup properly, the Proph should be extremely gentle on paint...

Lots of good points here, but I have an "added" bit of information.

Our store has sold 300+ rotors, in the past 13 months, and NOT a single one has come back broken, defective, insufficient, etc. 300 HAPPY customers for one single product. That might match our AGD satisfaction rate!

The Prophecy has lots of features, both systems feed plenty fast, but what matters most, is how easy can you clean it, and how long will it last... My vote is for the Rotor (sorry, Simon).

Time is what keeps things from happening all at once

I ended up picking up a Prophecy, had no issues with it down to about 30f.

I just can't justify spending the additional $ on the Rotor
