          Do what I do when distressing a guitar.***

          Look at pictures of old Thompsons and 1911s. See where they acquire wear, and what kind of wear it is. I usually use steel wool, varying lengths/sizes of chain, warm water, emery cloth, and mechanics gloves. The trick is to keep your ding/dent pattern random while controlling where and how much you scratch/sand. Otherwise, it just ain't authentic-looking.








          ***I'm not a jerk, I think distressed guitars are stupid, but the "relic" thing is popular so I cater to it. Paintball markers are a different story entirely. That's one of the nicest mags I've seen in a long while.
