Since this was a training exercise and not an actual game, the FAST team members didn't "die" when we shot them. They just turned, shot us, and kept going as if they hadn't been hit. After they had cleared out the house, though, the head trainer would debrief the team, point out our hits, and give some pointers on how to avoid taking that fire. So... gun shots did "count" against them, in a way.
Actually, one of my favorite stories from the day was when I was hiding inside a room and saw a gun coming through the door. I couldn't see the guy, but I decided to start firing through the doorway just to see what the guys would do. I heard one of the rear guys say, "Push in!" And then the point man cried back, "He's shooting through the door! I'm not poking out my head!"
Ahh... good times.
