Ok, so i was at my local field yesterday and a Japanese guy saw that i was using an Automag. (i live in Japan) so, he went and got in to the fields storage room and brought out a mag with a Z body on it and gave it too me. Told me i can have and that he hopes to see it cleaned up and usable. Now i know these are not that sought after as there were many problems with them. I think most of the problem was too small of a barrel, because everything i read said that if you used a huge bore barrel it worked amazingly. Now i don't want to disappoint this guy and i would like to see this thing in action as well. I have all the replacement seals i need to fix up the old classic valve in it and i also have a large bore barrel for it. But the one thing i need and can't seem to find is a new nubbin that actually makes this body work. The one that is in it is about the consistency of a slimy bugger and i have know idea what it is supposed to be like. He told me i would have to make a new nubbin because you can't buy them anymore. So my question is what should i use to make another one out of or where can i get one. Thanks in advance for the help. Also, opinions and any advice on the z body will be greatly appreciated.

which field? Tama Hills? If so the Far East Dragons practiced/played there back in the day and Yoshi (one of the teammates) is who designed and built the Z. Is it a chrome one? Or black one?
They are unique, but just so so anymore it seems. It'd be awesome to know the story of how it ended up at the field.
The biggest issue I have seen with them is people losing the nubbin on the top. Either the rubber part (can be made and replaced) or the metal part that has the screw in it (Impossible to replace) So if you have one that has all the parts you are in good shape. Also the system works best with NON glossy, good quality balls and a large bore barrel. You may have gotten a Z Barrel with it. You should get some pics up when ya get the chance.
The other issue is you can't use a level 10 bolt in them. The metal ring on the inside is too small ID to allow the LX bolt to slide through. There is a very small lip on the LX bolt that hangs up. But L7 bolts work fine.
Cool to hear you got one... I'm curious to know the rest of the story.

yes it was at Tama Hills actually. It was Hitoshi Kanda (he is pretty darn good at Pb btw, lit me up several times) who gave it too me. He is there every Saturday. The Mag didn't come with a barrel. But it did have all the pieces to the body. it was actually neither black or chrome. It was about the same color as the original mag body. Probably super rare and makes me upset that i just took the finish off it. But it was badly corroded and pretty much had to be done. I will ask Kanda the history of it when i get a chance. This thing looked like it had been put away for several years, but sadly has been neglected. I hope to bring it back too life and enjoy playing plating with it.

If I recall Hitoshi was one of the younger guys of the crew when I was there.. but that was back in 97-99... I think the last they would have seen me would be in 98 actually as I shipped out early 99.
If you get a chance ask him if he recalls getting shot by a frozen red paintball from me.
They knew me as Mook and DM. The frozen ball was unintentional for the record... I played there and rode my motorcycle from Yokosuka to Tama to play in the morning. Needless to say it was cold. The paint I had in my back pack with my gear and it froze on the way.
I've got pics back home of me and the crew of that day as he had one hell of a welt on his left arm. Does Hiroo still show up there? He owned/operated Killer Studios in Harajuku when I was there.

i thought the z was a bad ass body for the time ... lets u adjust the back spin of the ball?

Yes it has a nubbin that screws down a to hang the top of the ball as it goes by to put back spin on the ball which causes lift. Just like undercutting a golf ball.Originally posted by RT Loveri thought the z was a bad ass body for the time ... lets u adjust the back spin of the ball?
It works... but the paint determines how well it does.

yeah it was definitely not black or chrome. It had a little more of a gold tint than a stock body. But i know it is for sure a Z body. Do you happen to know what detent these things use. i would like to replce it but don't have a clue what it's threaded for. I know the barrel theades are cocker but not sure of the detent. I wish i had taken pics before i stripped it. I am going to make a new nubbin for it using RTV. Thankfully i have all the parts. I will post pics when I'm done with the build. That is assuming i figure out how to post pics. Still a newb. Is there a thread with directions on that?Originally posted by DevilManSame color as stock mag???? eh??? Doesn't sound right... Pics would be nice. If you at least have the metal cap, you can make a nubbin.

They use autococker NOT angel detents.
You need to open a photobucket or other similar account and upload the pics there, then link them here.
If it was gold colored it sounds like it was a black one that has been stripped a bit. Was it black/corroded in the slots down the side and in hard to reach areas? I know the black ones have a gold colored underlay, but I don't know why that is.

Cool, good info on the detents, thanks, This thing didn't have a bit of black on it. The corrosion was under the goldish color anno and was starting to make it bubble up. I don't think it had been stripped because it was a nice solid color except for where it had corrosion. No scratches or anything that would make me think it had been stripped. It might be a super rare z body that was like a prototype instead of a production model. Especially being that it was designed here in Japan by a guy that used to play on the field I got it at. And i Just ruined it's value. lol
