Yes. The military types that thought they knew what they were doing but had never played paintball were my favorite targets.

        God gun...

Picture an olive green box roughly 4" tall by 4" wide and 6" long attached to a 45 pistol grip. It has a couple buttons on the rear that face the wielder that read something to the effect of "area attack" and "pinpoint", these adjust the laser beam from a pinpoint for sniping to a cone of death. On the pistol grip you have a trigger with which to fire the laser.

The God gun is used by game officials to simulate artilery and other such hazards in training that would be very dangerous to attempt to reproduce. It's also used by unscrupulous officers who don't want to lose the war.

It's not uncomon to see a hummvee with ref markings on it drive up next to you, get out, wave their god gun around and set off every MILES device they can see in 50 meters. Sometimes they'll tell you what happened, sometimes they won't. I've heard "you've just been hit by an airiel bombardment", "you've been hit with a chemical agent", "you've been run over by a tank", "you've been spotted by a sniper", "just because I feel like killing you", and the ever famous "opps, sorry, wrong unit... well I guess you're still dead. Can you show me on this map where I'm supposed to be..."

Getting killed isn't too bad, sometimes it means a helo ride back to ops with a hot meal and a shower waiting for you after the graves and registration teams toe tag you :) Other times you just pack up and roll back to base, it all depends upon the type of training going on.

i was in my mortar hole and a tank drove up so i threw a box of rounds at him....he ran them over(there was only sand in the tubes) anyway he turned and blew away my hole(i was section sgt) after running over my other gun where a oc ran over and looked at me and said you know you nad everything in that hole is in a million pieces...to wich i responded well i put my flack vest on the radio, to wich he responded well i guess thats only 1000 pieces...i then pulled out my kill card and showed him it was merely a glancing head wound(from a tank) and he said well it may have glanced you but the it took your head with it that way and pointed off into the swamp...damn oc's i did disable the tank though and the tankers and our mortar crew all had a nice barb-q so it wasnt all bad

You asked what a "god gun" was, yet I explained it in one of my posts WAY above. LOL And thank you Evil Bob... your elaboration was nice, but the question was already answered.
But like I said.. it was a good elaboration.

So... I might as well elaborate as well.. LOL You stated..
It's not uncomon to see a hummvee with ref markings on it drive up next to you, get out, wave their god gun around and set off every MILES device they can see in 50 meters. I got a kick out of that. Thanks. But, I must add that they would not leave you "dead" if they made a mistake.. they can re-key any units they "kill". (To re-key is to reset the laser systems and turn OFF the flashing lights and stop the darn high pitch screaming of the MILES alarms. For those not familiar with MILES.)

The "Refs" also known as "observers" are often called to re-key equipment that accidentally went off, or has a malfunction.

Also the reason why they sometimes do not tell the "dead" units what killed them is because some units cheat and could warn others. They are suppose to stop all activity, and even radio contact... but this does NOT always happen. So at times they are NOT told why they died until the AAR (After Action Review.. for those not familiar).

I just did not want people to get the wrong impression on how things really went, and without this additional information, they WOULD have.

Yep, redundancy is often required, no big deal.

It depended upon who the unit who was reffing and if they were an independant officiating body or not. We got killed half a dozen times like that over the 7 years I was stationed in Fulda, Germany, it was pretty evident that there was cheating going on, but after being on a cold and wet hillside for 14 days straight (february in germany is not very kind) eating MRE's and crapping in trench, it was good to get killed now and then just to take the stretcher ride back and get a good few hours of sleep :)

Ref: "You were run over by a tank."
Me: "What tank? There's no tanks within 3 miles of us. Ground servailance rader is at the base of this hill, they would have spotted it long before it got here."
Ref: "yes there was, it snuck by them and squahsed you, you're dead."
Me: "How the hell do you sneak a 62 ton tank past 3 units up a 40 degree grade on top of this hill without anyone seeing or hearing it? Sir, that's the dumbest thing I've heard today.
Ref: "Are you going to argue with me on this?"
Me: "No, I'll let my LC argue with you on it, it's pretty obvious this is BS. You could of at least tried to use a plausible story."

We used to take a section of the M16 cleaning rods and crimp one of the ends with our Leathman's... instant MILES key... We'd never actually turn them off or remove the batteries, that was really cheating, instead we'd just set the gear to nearmiss... I'd also volunteer to be the 60's A gunner if I wasn't forced to carry the 60 myself. When I was the A gunner, I'd never have to fire any rounds through my 16... just let the air pressure from the 60 going off fire the MILES laser for me... just aim and let the 60 gunner do all the messy work :) Went a complete rotation at Graf without needing to clean my 16 :)

You don't realize how much air pressure or concussion those things give off untill you are next to one. I loved carrying the 60. We were set up one day on an 4 man team ambush near a road crossing. The orders had gotten screwed up and we were issued a 60 instead of the SAW. Don't aske me why but I jumped on the chance. The OPFOR came up the road and I iniated the ambush. My A-Gunner and the another guy beside me didn't even have to shoot. Only two of our four men actually had to clean our weapons. The OPFOR freaked when the 60 opened up. One guy actually froze in place where he stood. He was the first to get hit and was about only 5 meters from me (don't aske me why we set up that close, I was only the gunner, the TL said he wanted that spot and that is where we set up.)
Don't try running, you will only give me a better story!
