    scuba fill prices

hey, i went to a shop near me the other day to fill up my nitro tank and i asked the guy how much it saw to fill the big tank he was filling it from, since i was interested in buying my own. He said he didn't know and smiled becuase his son did it for him (taking the tanks to be filled at the scuba shop). Today i called the scuba shop and they said it only costs like $4 to fill an 80. And i payed $3.25 to get my 48ci filled. Now i know how badly im getting ripped off. Have prices to fill the big tanks always been so cheap? And he said you don't need to be certified or anything to have it filled. Just wondering, thanks.

It's 5 bucks by me. It does cost stores a good amount to rent and fill the equiptment, and to get 3000psi fills consistenly you need a few bulk tanks, however, yes, it is somewhat a rip-off, but stores gotta make money too.

      I love scubas

If you don't have to have the tanks sitting in your house and Only need for one day when you go out, you should just rent the tanks.
At my dive shop it costs $4 to fill my scuba tanks but it also cost $4 to rent them and they fill them for free.

        Go figure that one out.

just called and its 15 to rent for the day at my shop. You could really just run a field off 8 scubas for the day and it would be less than 50 bucks

You can get a SCUBA tank and a fill station for around $200. It's a chunk of money up front but you'll save plenty on fills in the long run.

Can you say profit & overhead. The money made off air fills pays for the investment in the tank, the time taken to get them filled and part of the costs of running the field. $3.25 is kinda steep for a 48 fill though, $2.50 would be more reasonable (The most expensive field in Toronto costs $4CDN for a 48/3K fill)

Yes the fields aren't trying to stiff ya (well some are, you can tell which are)
It does take a lot to operate the fields with insurance employees, they really do not make all that much .
That is why some fields trade work or reffing for paint or free play.

You could try putting your lips to the fill nipple and blowingreal hard into it (make sure you make a tight seal) =) J/K...

I have a friend that was completely at the right place at the right time. A couple months back, he got a used 80 tank with 3400 psi reg for 40, he then got a used fill station for 20. So all in all, $60 for a complete fill setup, and at $3 a full scuba fill, you just cant go wrong. The only problem I have with the scuba setups is that you have to drag it around where ever you play.

I like my 68/4500 PMI just fine. One fill at $3, but its nice small compact and I can bring it where ever I want to with alot less hassle.

I got a good deal, I got 2 of my tanks at a garage sale for $35 (I had to get them hydro'd and inspected, also one had to be tumbled which cost $45 all together)

Wow... $9 per fill is high. Six fills and you can afford a fill adapter, 10 more fills and you can afford a very nice barely-used SCUBA tank. Think about that one!
