Sheesh.....you guys are really opinionated about this subject.
As far as sniping goes we all know that the long range ballistics specialist is a myth in paintball...but if I'm playing Rec and someone wants to pick a concealed location and light me up as I advance that cool. Personally I like moving (both in Speedball and in Woods) and for that reason I sometimes get lit up by a newbie with a rental marker (in woods ball). To that I say SO WHAT! If that made his day fine. It is all good. I'm not there to prove that I'm an awesome paint warrior. I figure if I don't get lit up at least every other game I'm not making it interesting for myself

I used to be a sniper... when I was a noob.
I remember this one time in high school, after taking some smack with the class clown, I challenged him.
I was hiding in the bushes with my spyder and 18 inch barrel. I figuered the longer barrel gave me extra distance so I had nothing to fear.
I had him in my scope, then all of the sudden, someone shot me in the back of the head!

I remember this one time .... at band camp......
The only way to snipe is to not be seen until you are lighting them up. No such thing as long range shooting. Just learn to stalk more quietly and get behind them. That is the only paintball way to be a paintball sniper.
PS - Camping is not sniping.Comment

1. If you're lighting them up, you're not a sniper. The only way to snipe is to not be seen until you are lighting them up. No such thing as long range shooting. Just learn to stalk more quietly and get behind them. That is the only paintball way to be a paintball sniper.
2. What do you define as "long range shooting"? How long?
3. Everyone always thinks they're stealthy and sneaky. I got news for all of you, you're not really that stealthy, barely anyone is (even in woodball).
There are no paintball snipers. A paintball gun has neither the range nor accuracy. Stop hiding in the back of the feild newbies- You're only going to sit back there for so long before everyone realizes you can't really play. Actually joining the game will teach you skills and will eventually give you some REAL stories to brag about. Don't worry though, the majority of paintballers went through this phase when they were newbies to the game, you'll grow out of it.Converge KillsComment

The best time I had as a sniper...
This one time at Tombstone Paintball Park in CA, I hid quietly behind some trees.
I had full camo so I was pretty much invisible to the neked eye.
I spotted my mark about 100 feet to the side of me. So, like the hunting shows on TNT and ESPN2, I slowly made my move. I slipped on my home made supressor and zeroed in on my 3 X scope...
Fffffomp... HIT! I hit the guy right in the side of the head!
I must have totally surprised him, because from his reactions, it was obvious he had no idea where I was shooting from. He was cursing and all so, like a helpless deer, he must have been really frustrated and bewildered.
Some say it was because he was actually part of the game adjacent to us and that I mistakenly shot into the wrong field... but, I like to bask in the lime light that is: SUPER SNIPER MAN !
LOL! I can't believe I actually wrote that...

Back to the original post which was "?Your Opinion Of This Gun?"
The marker you are talking about is a low level electro. I don't believe that it is a true electro pneumatic marker which means it is an electronic trigger slapped on to a regular marker. I think the sniper version has an after market barrel included (can't remember which one). If he already has a Spyder he basically has the same thing minus the electronic trigger and after market barrel. Probably a good idea to stick with what he has for the moment. If he really needs to upgrade he can always slap an electronic trigger and after market barrel on his Spyder.
Best alternative is to save up money and move to an Automag
(or even another higher end marker) when he wants to.
As for the sniper debate I love speedball but I will always love large field woodsball. There is something about looking at a bush in front of you and wondering, "is someone in that bush?". Creeping towards it wondering it paintballs are going to burst out of it is a tremendous adrenaline rush (and I might point out cheaper than laning or sweet spotting in speedball). It is the game at its most basic level and I always have to laugh when my instincts were right and I get lit up for ignoring them.
The other thing I like about it (besides the lower expense due to lack of shooting) is the marker doesn't matter as much. My rec group has guys with Angels, Custom Cockers, and my Mag going against guys with Spyders, Rebels, and Tippmanns. It just doesn't seem to matter as much in Woodsball. My own humble (well maybe not so humble.....
) opinion.

it it just me or are there a number of paintball topics that ALLWAYs start the same debate... and the same outcome
Sniper is one of them
Isn't the definition of insanity "repitition while expecting a different result" (or something like that)
and the sniper thing... derived from just the ability to kill a snipe(not neccesarily shoot it from really far away).
If you could sneak up and take a shot from 10' or from 100'(we're talking about a small bird that your not going to be able to see from 100'... era was pre-scope and riffling)
Everyone here already knows the outcome of the sniper debate... so i won't add anymore to it
(changing the subject)... what kind of mask do you think is on the airgun.com menu?Comment

I know someone who got that exact same gun. It is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE! I mean, it's a Spyder clone...that title alone ought to dissuade you from buying it. The trigger is plastic, it's LOUD as all hell....I wouldn't touch that marker with a 10 foot pole. Oh and the "20bps full auto" setting is a blender. Avoid this marker at all cost... recommend a mag classic or even a spyder shutter/tl+ to your friend.

Yes, we have 2 Spyder TL+ 's at our house and they are actually pretty good markers for the money.
(Added: But I would still say get a Mag if you can... unless money is an issue.)
