I've always hear that flame-throwers are perfectly legal to own. Not that you would need one, but there arnt any "specific" laws preventing ownership.
Anyway, I've had my old Russian SKS go full-auto on me.
The Russian SKS is actually notorious for that. The firing pin doesnt have a return spring like the Chinese/Hungarian models, so it sometimes gets 'stuck' in the forward position, and slam-fires.
Every shooting-range I've been to has a "SKSs must be loaded while pointing down the shooting range" rule.
When it happened to me, I made sure I loaded the SKS while at the range, but the gun was pointed AT THE FRIGGEN GROUND when I cocked it.
Suddenly...pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-p (30 times! It emptied my magazine). Holy crap!
It left a huge crater between my legs!
Without a doubt, I had the same exact expression as the fool with the Ingram. (actually, the SKS has alot more recoil then the Ingram, so I'm probobly lucky I still have my legs).

Actually they were some of the best manufactured as far as SMGs go. They just fired from an open-bolt which allowd ingress of debris quite easily and were often poorly maintained afterwards. The gun was first produced in the mid 60s and production continued until the mid 80s. As is the high cyclic rate didn't help the reliability matters because even while robustly built, the extra stresses playOriginally posted by rx2
An Ingram/MAC product? No wonder. Those are some of the most poorly manufactured firearms out there.
havoc on the materials (and using a .45ACP didn't help). The M11 version was slightly smaller and while loading a weaker caliber (9mm or .380ACP) its still a lot of recoil at its cyclic rate in a short period of time. If you note the video, it was raining heavily and I'm sure between the rain, moisture, open-bolt and many mags dumped thru the gun without cleaning, debris jammed the mechansism. The nutbars in the other vids had 50 and even 125 round mags for the thing (it was designed for 30 or less). Oh and to answer someone else's question, that's a REAL suppressor/silencer, but firing supersonic ammo thru a suppressed gun still makes noise. Check the other vids and there's one of a surpressed MP5 with half the mag loading supersonic ammo and the other half subsonic and you'll note the change in noise.Last edited by DeeEight; 01-15-2004, 01:27 AM.

If you have never been to a Knob Creek Machinegun shoot, you are missing out. Most of the stuff you see there you can rent to try out, including the flamethrower.

Romero would be proud. This place has more things coming back from the dead than one of his movies.
As far as the MACs, I have never experienced one that fired reliably, even compared to other open bolt mechanisms. The materials didn't seem too robust, either. And, everyone I have spoken with has had nothing but contempt for them. As you mentioned, the cyclic rate is way too high, and the open bolt does lead to oustide contaminants getting in quite easily. Perhpas that soured things. I didn't have a chance to try one with a suppressor, though.
I read a few accounts, also, of Ingram and Mitch WerBell bringing people out to test, and the test going miserably. Not only would the weapons fail to function properly, bute the so-called "sionics" system that Mitch designed didn't work too well. Of course, I shouldn't be too hard, as one of the prototype AR-15/M-16 tested blew out a barrel (with the wrong powder, though).
Whatever the case, I certainly wasn't impressed, and much prefer HK, UZI, and even the old Thompsons. Perhaps I tested a few bad ones.
Also, while I didn't see the video, is that MP5 one with an attached suppressor, or is it an actual SD variant? The SD has a ported barrel that lowers the velocity of the round to subsonic (no sonic boom, for those unsure), and in my experience it worked.
Anyhow, I'll have to try to get down to Knob Creek to try some more. Perhaps my opinion will change. For now I'm waiting for my Model 500..."My Jell-O is dying in the audience..."

The next Knob Creek Machinegun shoot is the weekend of April 3 and 4th. It's always a blast to see all the antique and modern mg's at work.
The flamethrower guy and his wife come up from Alabama and rent out the flamethrower at about $50 for about 15 seconds of fire. It's a hoot!

are you using actual naplam like stuff in the flame thrower or is it just gasoline?
Also, I think, the thing on the barrel is just something to hold, so you don't burn the shizzle out of your hand. As far as I know flash suppressors are just little doohickies on the end of the barrel with holes in it.Last edited by Barfly; 01-16-2004, 02:17 AM.xXhAppyAznXx "If I whiped and shot full auto, I wouldn't feel very skilled.
