Scribe, Owning the retail version of Counter-Strike shouldn't get in the way at all. Simply put the mod folder in your CS directory, and activate it in the "Mod viewer".

If you want to use the mod's Icon instead of having to open Counter-Strike to play it, do this:

    1. Right click on the shortcut icon and click on "Properties"

    2. In the "Target" box change the string to the proper directory (for example the TFC shortcut's target says: C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -game tfc. For you, Half-Life, should be Counter-Strike, and so on).

NOTE: I'm not positive this will work. . .Its just somthing I read somewhere. . .But if im correct you should be able to play any mod you'd like. If it doesn't,email me and I'll help you further.

Well, i hate to tell you, you cant decide weather a game is awsome with some preliminary model screen shots. And they are pre rendered models, which means nothing. Go to counter-strike.net and look at the weapons page. Al those "awsome models and skins" are pre renders. The guns dont look like that in the game.

There is already a handfull of paintball mods for half-life, why don't you move onto a better game. Like use Battlefield 1942, theres some really good looking mods out and a paintball one would be sweet, supports up to 32 on 32 players, you could have paintball tanks n such, maps look very good.

Very nice job modeling and skinning. Just out of curiosity, what software?

Yes, as was stated, how they look in a game may be a bit different.

But again, good job on the initial work. I give it my thumbs up (something not seen a lot here on AO.. ).

Well. . .Im happy to tell you, that is in fact how it will look in game. Unlike Counter-Strike, we don't soup up our renders to be shown online. This one simply has a light shiningg on it. . .Pre-rendered, yes. . .But you can expect to see these sort of graphics in game.

You are right Automaggin, you can't tell weather the game is awsome by just one pic. But we can. . .And I'm here to tell you Maximum Velocity Paintball will kick-@$$! And we will not release anything short of Kick-@$$.

Skaod, there is only one Half-Life modification based on paintball. And that's Digital Paintball (HL-Paintball is no longer in development, so I don't consider it an active mod). Our mod will be very different from theirs.

Thank you guys again for your feedback More updates and pics to come!

I know a lot of developers choose 3dsmax simply because it's much easier to write tools and exporters for it. Especially if development is done within the Windows environment.

Yes, actually, Lightwave is used a lot too. I know a coworker uses Lightwave to make his levels and exports it to 3dsm so we can use our in house tools to get it loading in our game engine. Why the extra step? Well, he prefers the interface of Lightwave better than 3dsm. However, touch ups need to be done within 3dsm after he exports because it doesn't translate without flaws.

Oddly enough, our texture artists also uses Photoshop for Windows rather than for Macs. Windows might not be the best OS out there, but it's the most popular. That being said, because a lot of our computers run Windows, we try to reduce compatibility issues by using Windows applications for code, art, and design implementation.

Another software package that seems to be used a lot within the game industry is Maya. But our company uses 3dsm primarily in the Windows environment. A lot of our games developed for platforms also runs on PCs. Because development boxes are expensive, we develop our games using our proprietary API that allows us to develop games on multiple platforms(PS2, Xbox, Gamecube) using the same data. However, our games are optimized to run on the consoles.

Our modeler/graphics guy here uses 3DSM, and he is able to create realistic looking renderings all the time.

Most of his models involve using blueprints to create a model of a planned building, and then lay that model on top of a photo of the site. The only way you can tell its fake is the lack of dirt, usually

But you can make things look realistic in 3DSM, I guess it just depends on how much practice you get.
