    Death from Fill Station

    All,

There has been a death caused by catastrophic failure of a high pressure fill station and tank while the operator was filling it.

This is not confirmed but it appears that the female fill nipple exploded and the ball bearings went into the mans neck and killed him.

The man did die but the exact facts have NOT been confirmed. Lets stay in control and keep the speculation to a minimum and be ready to deal with the press.

If anyone has any SPECIFIC RELIABLE info from the source post it here. I am expecting that with our outreach we can find an AO member in the same town.

We are extremely saddened by this event and all of us give our condolences to the family.

            My condolences.

I'm very curious on the facts, was probably an extremely damaged or faulty female q/d or this might not of been the first time. Double check your gear ppl. Paintball is a Fun Sport but it deals with elements that leave window for danger so the importance of properly working equipment and all the proper safety precautions can not be stressed enough.

I've seen a couple of fill nipples break off but the check inside stayed with the male part, nothing to shoot out.

At a local Houston field, they had a tank come off of a reg while being filled. I talked to the guy filling it and got his side of the story. He was filling a tank to 4500 psi and about 4000 he heard a noise and saw a blue flash. The flash was the blue tank flying past him. It came off of the tank and rocketing into the fill tank, bounced off it and went about 200 feet downrange. The tank's owner had it hydro'd at a local scuba shop who didn't put the reg back on right. The tank threads were ripped out for about the last 1/4", the reg was mangled and the Angel it was hooked to had the barrel broken off. I can only imagine what it would have done if it had hit somebody. Scary.

My condolences go out to the family.

WOW, i have had the o-ring blow in a fill station before, and that scared the crap out of me. Once you find out, can you please tell us what brand it was, etc and what happened. This is extremely saddening. My condolences, go out to every one. Also, guys be safe about this stuff.

Aww man..We were just talking about this recently and I was saying then how this was avoidable a few months ago and how it was expected from a lot of us having seen Fill hose females connects flying around before. I think we should see if we can find that post and bring it back up.

                              What a shame.
