    aluminum X-Valve wear and tear

there have been a couple questions about fear of wear and tear on an all aluminum valve. I find it hard to believe that a guy who dsigned a valve that has had little change in 10 years because it was that good didn't test to see how well an all aluminum valve would stand up to wear and tear before beting the future of his company on its performance.

how about it...without asking you to divulge any trade secrets...how have the new valves been tested? how many shots at how much over normal pressure were put thru an x-valve in testing? how many shots till first failure?

I doubt the valve would be on the market if it wouldnt last under normal use. Somebody from AGD put it in writing so people stop worrying, and just buy one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the front parts of the x-valves (powertube, etc.) still stainless? If so, what is there to wear? There are dozens of aluminum inline regs on the market, and they don't wear out...

I thought Tom posted when he first started working on them that they wouldn't have as long a life as the SS version but that everybody was calling for it anyway so he was going to give them what they wanted.

Personaly, I'm not giving up my SS Retro that'll last forever to save a little weight.

The wear will first from the field strip screw threads. This will be the first thing to wear out on these regs. Again, they are not going to last as long as a stainless valve, but hell, who needs a valve that lasts forever. People have to remeber, cocker bodies are also made out of aluminum, look how long they last. As long as you are not an idiot and try to tourque down on the air fitting or the field strip screw, this valve will last longer than you will own the gun

also, like ^ said. if your careful it'll last. but then again. it would most likely last couple years at the least, and who knows what AGD has up their sleeve for newer better markers?

Muzik is dead on. the only realistic wear part is the field strip screw. and thats going to do FINE! ~95% of guns have aluminum bodys that the screws screw into and i saw on ebay a while back the #10 serial nubmer autococker....works like a charm!

You guys are flipping out over something trivial. Take a look at how many other products out there have stainless steel or steel screws going into aluminum. Look at the RT Valve, it has the stainless steel velocity adjuster threaded into the aluminum reg. body. Granted these threads aren't completely removed and threaded back in like the field strip screw, they're still used pretty frequently and I've yet to see a stripped reg. body.

The only thing that could happen is cross-threading the field strip screw. If Tom wouldn't have said anything you guys wouldn't be having a fit over this issue. It's a moot point. They'll last longer than you own the gun. One thing people can do on ALL steel screws that are threaded into aluminum is put some never-seeze on the threads and that will prevent galling.

Cmon guys, aluminum aint that weak. Think of what is made of aluminum. Your car. Almost every other paintball gun. Your bike. Do those things wear out very fast? not if you dont beat them with a stick every day. With just regular maintenance or even without, i bet this valve will last forever.

you're right, it is trivial. but he had a legitimate question and wanted a straight answer after all these people start shouting about how their valve is going to wear out after a week of play[exaggerated], and the like.

question answered, fears quelled, let this thread rest in peace.
