      I know the feeling Infinanty...

Played in a tourney a few months ago with a throw together team.. it was 45 degrees out and i was running co2 (no N2 fills in the area or at the field) and so I goto chrony and my gun shot 150-170 bps. i cranked it up but it froze. so i thought let her warm up a bit.. so i waited.. re chronoed, shot 350, 320, then 170. I was confused, but finally leveled it out to 270. I went to go play, the ref had me crono again just to be sure, i pull the trigger, and nothing happens. I had trigger pressure but i got no response. My team was waiting at the tape and I was stuck. A lot of people say it's my fault for usibng co2, but what am I supposed to do? So I had to use a rental gun (vert bottle mags.. heh) and the rental shot, but it chopped paitn or broke in the barrel every 3rd shot. I was shooting globs or goo rather than PB's the first game. I was not happy the rest of hte day.

Oh then about 30 mins later my tank burst disc blew (burst disc blew in 45 degree weather? WHAT?)

Neverthe less I was unhappy. I have always been unhappy towards that field. One it is ran by a guy with an estimate of four teeth who thinks paintball is all about going itn eh woods and shooting up people... WOOOHOOO!

All he knows about speedball is waht he reads in magazines.

He says he has been playing PB for two years.

Im 15 years old and have been playing longer than this fool.

So I am phasing in Paintball. I will probably play it more ofter one I can drive myself places and have a stable income...

On my non-shooting mag was caused by no other than my tank pin valve frozen up. My mag was just fine.

So I am keepign it for now. Maybe in the future I will show up at a REAL speedball field and start over likea lot of older players haev done over the years.

I always say: "The worst day of paintball is better then the best day in the office!"

maybe get a more simplified, reliable gun, (mag? ), and just take a step back. think about what you are going to do before you do it. Don't slide into that muddy bunker head first next time! Just take the good with the bad, you'll have em both. Concentrate on why you fell in love with the game in the first place, and run (or walk!) from there! Just slow down, take a step back, and take a look at the WHOLE picture, not just a bad incident or to!

        Happy Paintballin!

What should I do? Do you think I should just quit and quit wasting my time, energy and money? Or should I just try to work something out?

            Some suggestions

First and foremost, resolve your marker problems. As long as your marker is not working the way you want, most or all of the time, it is unlikely that you will get any enjoyment out of a day of paintball. I won't go into the pros and cons of your cocker versus any other marker out there - the point is to get something that works for your style of play and is reliable. If this means getting a different marker, so be it. If this means additional or different upgrades for the one you have, that's fine too. Just keep in mind that if you are not comfortable or able to maintain what you have, you might have made the wrong choice.

Secondly, take a good long look at the type of paintball you are playing. There are many different styles of the game, and often you can switch to a style that suits you better. Obviously tournaments (both practicing for and playing in) are extremely stressfull and you are most likely to get someone in your face if something goes wrong. All of the rec ball variations (woods, speedball, hyperball, supair, etc) have advantages and disadvantages.

For example, all of the sppedball/hyperball variants tend to be quick-hitting games where your initial strategy and run-out usually determine whether you win or lose. If this is not appealing, try playing in the woods. These games are usually longer, allow for multiple strategies that can change during the course of the game, and allow for more individualized styles (you can still get into firefights if you wish, but you can also play "sniper", or sneak to a remote area of the field and try to flank - you won't find as many targets, but you will also shoot less paint).

Finally, if you haven't tried scenarios and big games, you may be missing a lot. These games are extremely long in duration (12-24 hours usually) and tend to be mission and points based (go to some place at a certain time and do something like patrol, attack, defend, or recover an object). Overall, the stress level for this type of game tends to be extremely low because they are mostly just for fun, and if you get shot out, you can reinsert usuallly within 15 minutes. These games allow you to do pretty much whatever you want, whenever you want. In other words, you can form a squad that does nothing but attack the enemy base ( shoot a lot of paint, get a high body count, doesn't necessarily earn any points for your team), or form a squad that does nothing but run missions (if you can accomplish your mission without firing a single shot, so be it), or you can perform guard duty for your base, work with your teams command staff to form mission squads, sneak of as a lone sniper to a remote area and gather intel on the other team. You get the point.

So, in short, get a marker that works, and pick a style that is more appealing to you, and you should begin enjoying your paintball experiences again soon.

The problem lies with you tinkering on the cocker. Get yourself a backup gun like a black dragun or something simple but fun to shoot. You'll regain a love for the sport.

Start working out, stretching, working on balance issues, practice sliding into bunkers, or tucking in tight...work on the fundamentals of moving/playing and you'll find you have less and less "accidents".

                My advice:

1 ) Get your marker either fixed and learn how to work on it or get rid of it for something less tempermental that requires far less tinkering to maintain. Cockers are not for the technophobic or weak of heart; you either know your marker well or you know the guy at the pro shop well, or it doesn't work right. Nothing worse then a marker that does not function when you want it to, you are limiting yourself by faulty tools.

2 ) Turn off the computer, Get off your lazy butt and get more exercise, at least 3 times a week bare minimum. If you are sore for a week after playing a single day of paintball, its a big sign that you are in poor physical condition and in dire need of improvement. If you don't know what to do, ask your doctor for some advice.

3 ) Injuries can be prevented by wearing good protective gear, learning how to move, knowing your own limitations, and making wise decisions. I can't tell you how many times I've seen some fools take a header off a 30 foot drop or slide in on their knees into a bunker that is mostly rocks, concrete, and rebar, or look down their barrels in the staging area without goggles on, all because they weren't thinking. This is refered to as "adrenaline poisoning", a state where you lose all rational thought and common sense and become SuperMan, except without any actual super powers. It's better to take a just take a hit and take a break then do something stupid that you will regret for the rest of your life.

4 ) Suck it up! You heard me, don't get down on yourself, how you perceive the outside world and how you think about yourself drasticly affects your performance. If you think everything sucks, guess what? You are going to suck. If you think you are the stuff that Pros are cut from, then you're going to kick butt and have fun. It is all entirely 100% up to you, you make the decisions to either have a poor time or have a good time. Be a master of your own destiny, not a slave.

infinity i was in the same situation as you for a long time. what i did was sell my cocker for $600(i got lucky and my friend wanted it i had about $800 in it) and bought myself an rat impulse(insert other gun if you with in the same range) with the $600 and some cash i had.

another thing that seemed to help alot is strangely i got a harness. im telling you that thing felt fine playing nice an snug and at the end of the day taking it off felt like heaven. i also recommend getting some knee pads if you kneel while playing(i bought some but they dug into the back of my kness and i hardly every crouch)

Like it has been said before, I really think you should get rid of the cocker and get a more reliable marker.

I see you live in San Jose, CA by your location. Take your cocker to I&I sports off of Cottle road (across from the IBM complex), talk to Gilbert, he's been using cockers for many moons, if he can't help you, he can send you to the right people to talk to and get you on your way to recovery.

                              Don't quit now!!!

There's a new field openning next weekend @ the Santa Clara Fairgrounds!

Seriously, sounds like you need to just take a break from paintball for a while. Then get your marker looked at. Hopefully, after a short break, you'll have a better attitude for the game. If not, then sell your stuff to fund another hobby... Good luck.

i dont think you should quit. Maybe a break ive been going for 4years and their has been about maybe one year that i didnt play. so i guess 3 years lol.

i think that u really should get your cocker going, play with your friends around the house and make sure it works then u can go out spending 100 a day at a real field with haven fun.

also i got MAD pois. ivy in aug from playing. i had my arms Covered. i hated it but i got over it and now play in long sleeve.

think about it b4 u quit man
