How to tell if a mag is stolen?

    Hello,

I just bought a used E-Mag from eBay and wanted to make sure the marker was not reported stolen. A few items that make me wonder is the serial numbers on the body and power tube do not match. Also there is a name engraved on the battery pack that does not match the name of the seller. When I asked about this the seller reported that the name was there when he bought it new. This doesn't make sence so I wanted to confirm with the Mag experts here.

    Any comments are welcome.

    Thanks
    Rob

You can call AGD and see if that serial number has been reported stolen. Maybe check a few online forums too.

Call airgun and ask them about it. Tell them what the deal is with the mis-match number, and have them look up both numbers to see if either one have been reported stolen.

As far as an individuals' name being engraved on a brand new gun before its bought- - - i highly doubt it.

I definitly would suggest looking into this.

        Thanks for the info,

I checked AGD's site and it says that no mag will be taken in for work with mis-matched numbers. I'll call them on Monday about tracing the numbers.

Is there any site I should check that would have postings of stolen markers.

You sound like a nice guy, but why do you care so much? You just bought a gun, and if it was stolen, what you doing to do, give it to them? Really, if you bought it just to give it to the orginal person, than your a weird person. So whats the point of finding out if it was stolen? Unless you stole it and have a guilty consence on you, telling you to give it back.

This is a link to a list of stolen guns posted on Warpig: http://www.warpig.com/paintball/arti...olenguns.shtml

With regards to Crog's comments, it's quite reasonable to look into the history of a marker you're suspicious about. If if nothing else, a few questions now will remove the possibility of unwanted accusations in the future (if somebody were to recognize a stolen marker). If it turns out that this Emag was stolen, it will also be easier to trace where it came from now than at a later date.

I agree. Call AGD on Monday and find out the history of those serial numbers. If one is stolen, youll want to know that now...why? because you never know

As for the engraved name...unless its "Tom Kaye" or "Jon Comprada" or similar...it didnt come that way

The reason for finding out if this marker is stolen or not is to go atfer a possible theif selling items on eBay. I know that it might sound strange but there's just too many flags that are popping up. Also I feel that if worst comes to worst and I find the orginal owner at least I can file charges aganist the seller.

I never had any paintball item stolen from me but I know a loss of a$1000 marker would put a dent in anyone's budget. Just trying to do what's right.

                      Thanks everyone!

Good points there. I thought that you were going to give the gun back to him or something.

I think there is some kind of buyer protection insurance with ebay. I would say it is very worth investigating this marker, without a disasterous ending for you. I know I wouldn't show up at a field with a stolen gun and the original owner is there. Could get ugly.
