Paintball Blitz ( http://www.paintballblitz.com ) up in Gurnee (near Great America) is lots of fun. They're near a river, so sometimes a couple of the fields are flooded and there are lots of bugs. But, you don't have to worry about that anymore this year.

The only thing I don't like about Paintball Blitz is the price of the field paint. $120/case!!!! And it's field paint only.

          OK, back to nubbins....

I wonder how uniform the "zig" in the barrell is with third-party barrels? It never seemed to be a problem with the wire nubbins, since they could bend through the zigs, but with the plastic, it appears that they have to be within specific tolerances.

Let us know which barrels you are using.

I got my nubbins! Thank You AGD. I didn't get any stickers though... but hey free nubbins are good enough for me. Which way do you put them in the barrel. High point in or low point in. Or does it only fit one way? I don't know because i don't have my barrel because I am trading it.

                    Nubbin Update............................

                    Test update with plastic nubbins.
First off the nubbins had a problem when I tried to insert the barrel in the marker. The tab that sticks out the back of the barrel sits off the barrel to much and made it tough to get the barrel in. I was able to get the barrel in after trying another nubbin. I set up my E-Mag with warp in e-mode and unloaded paint on my fence. I found that I seemed to be breaking paint in the breech. What I think it might be is that the nubbin is not flexing enough due to the fact it is pressing against the mainbody. I have yet to shave down the back tab to give more clearance. I was using new marbelizer and some week old paint in low 50's temp. I switched to a v-nubbin on my freak and tried it again using one hopper and I had only 1 break. My conclusion is that the tab off the back of the barrel needs to be shaved down to give the nubbin a bit more flex for the ball to pass.

                    Sorry for the long post

Unfortunately, I was out of town and didn't get in on the plastic nubbin test in time

Yes, it does appear that the back side of the plastic nubbin needs to be shaved down to give it a little more flex. If it is still sticking in the barrel when depressed, it's going to cut into the paintball as it goes by. You're going to want to depress the nubbin until it's flush with the barrel's inner surface, then shave off flush the plastic on the outside. This will guarantee that a ball can safely pass the nubbin without the nubbin making contact against the valve body.

For those of you who are using wire nubbins, you only need enough nubbin in the barrel to prevent the paintball from passing it on it's own. If you have a tight bore 3rd party barrel, it takes only 1/32 of an inch to prevent a paintball from falling through. I've seen guys with 1/4 inch of the nubbin into their barrel and they're wondering why they break paint so much. I've also seen guys who have modified their V nubbins and left sharp edges on the tip of the V, it acts just like a razor blade and slices right through the paint. The less contact the ball has with the nubbin the better, you only need enough to prevent the ball from rolling by.

I've got barrels with the round tip nubbins and I've got barrels with the V tip nubbins, with the right adjustments you'll never break paint. I've gone through 30 cases of paint in the past 6 months without a single break. It can be done, it just takes a little attention to detail.
