The rifle that was posted is a Barrett M82A1. Yes it's a very big gun but I think calling it crazy is just plain wrong. It is one of the best long range competition rifles currently available. Now this isn't a deer rifle but then again there are other uses for rifles such as this. Long range competition is just one example.

But yes wouldn't that be sad if paintball markers were outlawed - regardless of what happens to real guns.

actually, most of the long range target competition uses .416 rigby or similiar belted magnum case necked down to .308 caliber bullet. 240 grain sierra boat tail has one of the highest ballistic coefficient, and at 3400-3600 fps, it shoots very flat and relatively soft. last time I heard, the record for 10 shot at 1000 yard was about 3". that is some accurate shooting. Most of the competition rifles are bolt action, as it is more accurate than the barrett semi auto.

Frankly, gun laws are feel good legislation, and does not do anything to stop crimes. (in fact early gun laws were to control population. sullivan law disarming the italian immigrants) But we are getting way off the paintball subject here....

Another 50caliber rifle is the AR-50. Any kind of restriction on weapons passed in any state angers me. I mean sure, some weapons shouldn't be owned due to the problems that would be caused due to miss use. I live in California and in my opinion there are way too many liberals here. My father owns a AR-15 and a few other rifles that I really enjoy shooting. But when I finally set out to buy them for myself, I found out that any rifle with a pistol grip stock is illegal to buy unless you all ready owned one when the bill was passed.

One thing people who try to ban any form of firmarm don't see is the laws they pass only affect the law obeying citizen. If any criminal really wanted to get a hold of a certian weapon I'm positive they would eventually get it for what ever illegal reason that got the firearm banned in the first place.

Yeah there is also a thing in the constitution about not being able to ban REAL guns. That really stopped them didn't it...

              EDIT: Here ya go...

"(g) Preemption of State or local laws or ordinances; exceptions
The provisions of this section shall supersede any provision of
State or local laws or ordinances which provide for markings or
identification inconsistent with provisions of this section
provided that no State shall -
              (i) prohibit the sale or manufacture of any look-alike,
nonfiring, collector replica of an antique firearm developed
              prior to 1898, or
(ii) prohibit the sale (other than prohibiting the sale to
minors) of traditional B-B, paint ball, or pellet-firing air guns
that expel a projectile through the force of air pressure.

I'm a left-wing liberal. I'm also a paintball player, gun owner, and hunter. You know what happens when people assume.....

I'm not trying to start a flame war, I just don't have a lot of patience for broad stereotypes and generalizations.

That bill was passed in 1999. The law came into effect for the year 2000. Any high powered semi-automatic rifle with a pistol grip and removable magazine are banned.

Jazzman, while you may be pro-gun while being "left wing liberal", you have to admit that you are in the minority in that camp, and I did not mean to give offence, because it is taken for grant. I believe people understood my "left" reference, as those anti-gun, socialist feel good crowd, AKA "tree hugging liberals" or simply democrats.

May be you heard this one. If you are young, and not a liberal, you have no heart. If you are a middle age, and not a conservative, you have no job. I too was young and liberal. I got older and wiser.

Heck, I am a registered democrat, so I can vote against them twice. Also, I am a LIBERAL in classical sense, in a Jeffersonian constitutionalist way. classical LIBERAL is nothing like modern day liberalism.

anyway, this is way getting off the paintball subject. No reply necessary. If you feel need to continue discussion, PM me.

paintball guns have bolts... thus making it bolt action... correct??

                        Interestingly Enough

                        Hi,

I had a boss that was a gun esthusiast. he worked part time for a shop and for a range. He knew alot of what was going on at the time. Since my memory is a little off but he told me this.

The fellow that owns the company that makes the light fifty, was arrested I think 2001 for a tax violation.

As for NJ. long story short. The deal was anything over a 62 caliber was considered a weapon of mass detruction. Anything under was considered a firearm.(This is why you need a firearms ID card for a bb gun in the state of NJ.) Since Paintball was not even close to being a WMD, it was challange in court by local field owner, Ray Gong. Ray had a number of top names like Bud Orr and Jessia Sparks to testify in paintball's behalf. The judge agreed the marker was not a WMD. Therefore the paintball marker won an exemption. However in recent years, there have been several incidents in which a call for legistration to make a marker a firarm requiring a firearms card to purchase and own a marker. So far nothing has really come of it.

                        Later,
                        Alan
Paintball cannot be that big. No one has really been able to sponsor a stock car or a race yet. (local people do not count in this case )

Any thing over .62 is a WMD in Jersey, lol. OMG they fit a mini nuke into a shell 6 tenths of an inch wide! Think of the radio active carcasses of deer left lying around. It would be pure awful.

                            Left and right....

Well, I live in NYC and anyone who lives here knows the laws against guns etc. I had a college professor who was a hunter and general gun enthusiast. He was very active in politics and specifically gun politics and he was FOR handgun control. His point was that handguns were for one thing only, killing people. I know that som of you will disagree with me, but in NYC handguns are only used for this purpose. Long guns, rifles etc are used for many things other than killing people. I agreed with him and this is the reason that I hate NYC gun control laws so much. No one makes any differentiation between the two. I would like rifles and shotguns to be treated differently, and they are to a point. As far as I know, technically I cannot own a paintball gun in NYC. At least I cannot buy one, so why should I be able to own one. Gun control laws have gotten out of control. Either people want none or too many. There are middle grounds and not many people want to explore them. I am still doing research to see what the exact laws about banning paintball guns are. I am a teacher and have a few students who own thier own paintball guns. I make sure they are careful with them so as not to get in trouble.

A friend of mine and fellow paintballer made a good point to me the other day. I told him that there are more laws coming down that will ban our paintball guns and such. His point was kids in this city are getting shot at for having a wallet in their hands, imagine what will happen when they have a paintball gun!
