I had a great time, reffing was awesome, paint was great,

I think this is the first tourny that I went through the entire tourny with out one ball break of any kind. I was using my timmy by the way.

The team did well even though we had two of our B team members instead of our normal team.

      Yeah, see...

I assign zero value to whether the intent was devious or not. That's a very, very, very bad way to write rules, and no other major sport writes their rules that way. It doesn't matter if you MEANT to step out of bounds, it doesn't matter if you MEANT to drop the ball, or bean the batter with it, or throw it outside the strike zone four times before you got three strikes, it doesn't matter if you didn't mean to grab the guy's facemask or go offsides. All that matters is that you DID, and that's what you get the penalty for. You're never going to see the Umpire at the football game say "After reviewing the play, we have determined that Number 27 did not know his foot was out of bounds. The touchdown is thus good." Referees are not psychics, and it's silly to try and force them to be. They're there to determine what happened and assign penalties accordingly. It's the player's responsibility to determine how they should play the game to prevent penalties from too adversely affecting their performance.

While I understand the motivation to write a rule which says "You're out when you have a hit, and you know for sure that it's there", I also realize that "You're out when you're hit" is a much better rule.

Well there is intentional grounding....there is roughing the passer....there is interfering with a base runner....there is charging verses blocking....well....there are plenty of sports that wright their rules with intent closely monitored and thereby interpreted by the referee's in the call. So I would not go so far as to say NO sports write their rules with intent in mind.

However those very rules are the most contoversial ones to call and suffer some of the most critisim!

So you do have a good point in that they should be avoided at all costs. I think that was what I had said above in my last summation. That is why you chose to take that route with the rules.

Because in Paintball its all about wether it broke or not. And sometimes you cannot yourself tell for sure. Your always going to have to decide what to do in a split second. So you go to the rules....whatever they may be.

          ...

well as it turns out... Chris and I where basically taking issues on two different things...

The explanation we recieved at nationals and the wording of the rule itself led us to believe that the playing on rule was: you call for a check and if you fire before the check is done, your pulled, slapped with a penalty, regardless of wether your clean or not... This is what I was getting so angry about..
Chris just clarified this on the forum that the rule MEANS
That you are slapped with the penalty ONLY if the paintcheck finds a valid break on you..

If anything needs to change now with the rule, its a differentiation between "a hit" and "a break" so we dont have to have a day long discussion about nothing again...

Im goin to delete pretty much all my off topic posts in this thread now since, the whole debate was pretty much worthless... I would ask that a mod do the same to others off-topic posts unless it is felt they contribute something worthwhile..

No don't delete them! It was good stuff! Of course the pentalty would only be if you turned out to be "out". But I thought it was a good discussion of why they went the way they did on thier rules.

                    amusing...

I find it kind of amusing that we had a "good debate" when we were NOT even talking about the same things...

Not to mention the IRONY in that I missed all my classes today being sick, and have done more thinking/ reasoning than I have in the rest of the entire year thus far at college... (then again that MIGHT be why im on academic probation )

o well, it happenz I suppose...

Well I can use that to start another NCPA rules debate and try to save face here...

Reading the rules can seldom do a player any good, as the events themselves are NOT forced to use the rules in question and may deviate from the rules if they so desire..
You can see this yourself as the site you posted has "changes" listed in RED heres a better place to look

The NCPA definatly needs to make the rulebook official and standard.

I should note: mildly on topic anywayz

10.1.1 Unobvious hits are any mark on a player from a paintball fired by a live player, or any mark resembling such a hit, which is not an obvious hit. A judge shall assume a hit is from a paintball fired by a live player unless he has specific reason to believe otherwise. A judge shall remove any marks that are not from valid hits.

10.1.4 Players will not be penalized for continuing to play with an unobvious hit.

                        hmmm... this needs work

                        AND FOR FUN:
5.1.5 Gun barrels may be equipped with porting, slots, rifling, but may not have sound suppresser attached or integral to the construction of the barrel. Only one barrel will be allowed on the field.

Is it really THAT hard to say only one barrel PER PERSON will be allowed on the field?? The way its worded now seems kinda unbalanced as only one person out of 10 gets a barrel..

                        and ALSO FOR FUN
10.2.3 Players will be eliminated if they are not wearing arm bands issued prior to the start of the games fully exposed on their left arms.

kinda hard when theres no armbands... GOGOGOGOGO! OK thats it YOUR ALL OUT for no armbands..

Now getting serious again, for things not covered in the rules that I know have happend at least to ISU (we always have SOMETHING)

-The games play at night and half the lights go out, what do you do?

-A player runs betweeen two adjacent bunkers and bunkers your remaining two players... what do you do?

-Or a more general version of the one above thats not covered in the rules.. A player moves a bunker but is not in direct possession of it so any breaks on the bunker dont count. (yup thats right no rule for manipulation of the field)

Yeah, we were Purdue E, actually we're known as Purdue Platinum. Whatever, right no one has heard of us before. I was the guy on the center 50 when we played ISU in the finals, if you can remember that game.
Congrats to Illinois for their championship. Thanks to all the players, Refs, NCPA officers, and sponsors that made the event possible. Speaking on behalf of Purdue Platinum, we had a great time and we're looking forward to future events.
