    gah
    remotes aren't en vogue
don't you want to be cool like the pros

    seriously though
i think Cal hit the nail on the head here...
people put up some pretty weak arguements against remotes

i use one on my AT-85...
and although I only use it in the woods
I'm not dead against even running a tournament with a remote
(although as it stands i run my rt with a 68/45)

a friend of mine has a redz 4+1 that he runs a 114 on
it's waaay better than the oldskool 6+1's...
    doesn't bounce at all
and since it puts the tank on the right side of your back it gives you more slack with your remote(he uses a slinky)
he can easily switch hands...he's run several tournaments with it

as Cal mentioned you just have to get used to having a top heavy gun and the balance being a little off

Nobody077: raptors and raptor rex's aren't necessarily remote tanks...
they're just a little bit older of a design
i have one on a dz3 on my retro, you just have to have a pro-connect or slide check because there is no on/off switch

You dont need a ProConnect with a Raptor
I allso run my Raptor Rex on my gun but they are marketed by AA as remote tanks.

I have seen an emag w/ x-valve w/ warp feed and a halo on remote. the guy used a stock and he said that he did not like the feel of a tank. he also used one of thso old-timey sights w/ crosshairs and stuff, but he was pretty good.

Well, I never used nitro on remote, but I can imagine the same problems would occur with nitro on a remote as with Co2 on remote. For me it was that it gets in the way, having a cord on your back hooking you up to your pack. Also, when I slid on my back(forgot that I had the remote), The co2 nailed the ground, made a loud thud, and I ended up falling over... Maybe its just me, but I think it gets in the way...

If people are really worried about their remotes sticking out, or getting tangled, I knew some people that ran their lines up their shirts and never had a problem.

I don't use a remote because it is uncomfortable to lay down with a tank on your back, I've tried all sorts of pacs, but if you get into a bunker where it is easier to lay on your back and get a shot than when you are on your stomach, it juse doesn't feel good.

                  The Cause of it ALL...

Warbucks actually posted the first message on this site per my suggestion for his X-mag to reduce the weight of the gun for tourny play. I had suggested connecting all the electronic devices of the gun (Battery pack, Halo B, and Warp Feed) in a circuit and running them off a remote battery pack (with a quick disconnect of course) which can be strapped to the body of the player to remove the weight of the 10 AA batteries and the battery pack of the gun itself required to power the monstrosity.

"Why not remove the tank?" (remote system)

If anyone can picture in their minds eye the blowup clown punching bags you would set on the floor which had sand or some type of weight on the bottom. The top would move freely when you hit it, but the bottom would remain stationary because the bottom weight gave the clown stability. Same idea. The tank, as most of you have stated, creates stability for the gun, but the mass of the batteries does not help the balance of the gun because the dead weight (especially the battery pack being so far forward) is not at the very bottom of the clown.

Now since I don't have an X-mag to play with yet (this backorder situation sucks) I don't know how practical this theory is. The question is not fatigue from carrying the gun, it's mobility and being able to control aim better on a moments notice. If any of you can tinker with this and post some results, I would love to see this. And since X-mag won't come till August (supposedly) there is plenty of time.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this and responded to the first inquiry.

I used to run remote it made my gun feel much lighter but then i got a new stubby tank and it won't fit in my pack anymore. Personally i perfer remote, many people say that the tank can be used to stablize the gun as a stock but paintballguns don't have that much recoile and many people hold their gun so tight to their body there is no space for a stock anyways(if not many people, i hold it very tight to my body).
set up: Micro e-mag with 32 degree chrome flame drop, Level 10, 88/4500 crossfire, 12 in CP, 32 degree whisper and ARADUS 14in barrel, EVO II.

                        bottom line
it comes down to personal preference
like i've said before... it's definitely something you'd need to get used to and learn how to use it to exploit it's good qualities and limit it's downside
                        lets face it
                        everything has a downside

the main reason why most people don't use a remote is because it's not cool

i bet if Dynasty or Avalanche all started running remotes you'd see a lot more of them in general

not that I have anything against on gun setups...
i use a drop forward sometimes and a remote other times

                        it depends on the conditions:
obviously if you're playing a 24hr scenario game you'd be better off having that heavy tank on your body instead on one arm(but then i also use a combat sling on my AT-85 for scenario/big games )
on my warpfed minimag i have a drop and a 68/45
seems a bit impractical to have a warp, which severely throws off the balance and no tank to help stabilize it
besides the idea of my warp hanging on the bottom of my gun with nothing solid below it scares me...
i definitely would be afraid of taking a dive and snapping it off or atleast cracking it

i used a remote with my 110 3000# nitroduck. switching hands wasnt an issue, with no tank i just brought the gun across the front of my body and shot off the left side of my bunker just fine. you can be as tight as you want and a slinky hose doesnt stick out. the weight was great too. i just hated being tied to my gun, and having to go through the contortions of getting my tank filled, turn on the remote, check how much air i had and so on. i switched to a drop. i still use the 110 tank.
heres some old skool woodsball remote style:

This is the real reason IMHO. The funny thing about paintball, unlike most other sports I'm aware of is how PERCEPTION driven it is. I don't think anyone really ever questions anything and therefore everything is marketed/sold one hollow words alone. (Except AGD stuff) People buy their guns, loaders, and air system all based on what is popular and almost never seem to ask which works better...

The remote thing is along the same line. Remote argueable *is* better in many situations but since you don't see the pros using the setup it is shunned. We spend WAY to much time in our sport trying to copy the pros who have tima and again shyown that perform is not theis goal in a product, fees for using the product is. In short, in our sport the *pros* aren't really all that professional at all.

The sad part is that they drive virtually everything in our sport. Even if their beliefs are deterimental.

Remotes don't get the attention they deserve. If you don't think the sport is perception driven then look at what happened to the Eggolution after Lasoya and Avalanch started using it.
