how muck do you shorten the on off pin

Relax. Dayspring is right, the on/off pins are of a measured length to fit different types of marker.
However, the on/off recess in the valve is often machined slightly differently across examples of the same valve type. In my case my Retro valve/classic combo would hardly shoot at all with a .750 pin, had terrible dropoff and no reactivity. By shortening the pin to .740 I achieved sufficient reactivity and cured the drop off problem.
So in some cases shortening the pin is not only desirable, but necessary. My advice is buy a few spare .740 pins and experiment with different pin lengths and input pressures.
I have never seen any mechanical failures due to shortened pins, even on markers deliberately set up to bounce/runaway for thousands of shots. On the other hand Dayspring has seen mechanical failures. You choose.

"you cant fire much faster unless you sweetspot but that is illegal"
Sweet spotting is not illegal, runaway triggers are...
I don't remember any claims about the X-Valve making guns shoot faster. The X-Valve is about making your gun lighter. The advantages of the RT is the recharge rate, this "allows" you to shoot as fast as YOU can pull the trigger, the gun will not do it for you. The reactive trigger aids you in firing faster if you can find the sweet spot.
There is no magic behind the X-Valve, you just need to learn how to exploit what it has to offer.

i walked my retro for 3 shots. if I coulda keps goin it woulda been like 12 bps at least. but its like impossible to do.
oh and if your not feeling the reactivity check your tank. right now my flatline is gettin really inconsistent output so I'm not getting the full reactivity I want.
