Also, I might mention that that was dated Oct of 2002. If they were going to do that, it would be out by now. They obviously came across some kind of impass. Perhaps the battery storage wasn't sufficient.

What if, instead of making that battery pack shorter and thinner, just make it thinner... Have the same length. You'd still be able to shave a little weight off, and have a longer battery life.

Now that I look at it, the only one I like is the first one.
If you look at them, they are very plain. AGD would have prettied them up before they released them.

I would thing it should be the same size all the way up the pack. This may make it look funny on a std emag, but on an xmag or sfl it already sticks out past the rest of the body.
so here's my idea make the circled part the same size as the rest (arrow). (notice my mad paint skillz)

Ill agree with wyn on how the grip should be even with the pack, a large pack with a thinner grip just doesnt look right. Ive never owned an E-mag but Ive borrowed one before and the only thing that bothered me about it was the weight and the foregrip.

Basically I think you should keep the grip "square" but, if possible, shorten the battery pack and slim down the grip so you can hold it better. Nice work btw.
