Hard to take review sites seriously

Sights like pbreview are hard to take seriously after reading reviews off the sight. People Giving markers like a Spyder Sport a 10 out of 10 only because the can not swallow there pride and bad mouth their own marker. It seams as if this is not as much as a problem with the high end markers probably due to the fact that the people owning these markers and writing reviews probably take the sport of paintball much more seriously and can actually Find true flaws or advantages in a marker. However I feel bad for new comers to the sport reading reviews on low end entry level markers and spending their cash they have been saving on a marker that is less than they hoped for
    A Few Random Ratings
    spyder sport: 8.4
    Automag Classic: 9.4
    03 vertical cocker: 9.2
    Brass Eagle afterburner: 8.0
    JT 3.0: 9.3
    E-Mag: 9.3
    Spyder Esprit: 9.7
Would you have rated these the same?

When people write their own reviews, it is always going to be skewed. You will have the owners who give them a 10/10, and haters who will give a 1/10. People who actually care will give real ratings, but that doesn't happen to often.

It's not supposed to be a universal rating, you have to take each rating in context of the gun itself.

A spyder may be a 10/10 gun in the eyes of a kid new to the sport without all that much money. While to an experienced tourney player, a stock spyder doesn't really perform as well as an angel might.

Personally, I think PBReview is stupid, the majority of the reviews go like this

Pros: VAREY ACCURAT & FASTER THAN FRIENDS ANGLE LIGHT!!!!!1
      Cons: NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Other comments: BEST GUN EVAR BUY THIS GUN NOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Whilst in reality all high end guns are so hopelessly similar performance wise that it doesn't matter after the 600 dollars mark, you're still going to get a paintgun that launches paintballs as well any other.

I think the review sites are great. I certainly don't take any of the ratings seriously though, but they allow you to see others opinions concerning good points or bad points about the marker in question. The ratings are all about the value of the gun.

A spyder can still be rated at 9/10 along with an angel rated 9/10. The spyder costs $150.00. The angel costs $1000.00. Therefore, the spyder gets its rating based on what you get for your money just like the angel. On a low cost gun you don't expect as much, and if it delivers adequate performance for the price you paid, then you got a good deal. On the other hand, if you paid an extremely high price for a marker, you expect it to perform flawlessly and with the precision of perfection. You accept no less and you shouldn't. You too, want to get what you paid for.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

the guys who write the review are writing from their point of view. they dont know any better, if their gun sucks that bad, of course they ll admit it, but it doesnt suck to them.

if you let them compare a spyder to an angel, they might give their spyder an 8 out of 10, and the angel 10 out of 10

*EDIT* Next time, leave all the personal vindictives out of your posts. Play nice........or play by yourself. Army

I like to use PBReview for the reviews themselves. Read the content, not the ratings. You can then skim those reviews that are obviously hype, and just get to those who sound like they know what they're doing.

People want to justify their purchase, and want to belive that what they bought is the best possible. However there are also honost people. That is why you get one review for a Spyder victor 10/10 , and one for a viking that gets 8/10 because "the reg has to break in to get from +-4 to +-1" Howver the spyder owner does not even go into such areas as consistancy, kick ect.

I gave my gun a 9 out of 10. I'm perfectly happy with it, my only major complaint was the weight and the 3 way sticking. I only write facts not stupid crap like "more accurate and shoots further then my friends brothers sisters cuzins grocers angel!"

hAppyAzn, stop hating on CLnick6. He was asking a simple, and very valid question. He is also very new to the forums. If you don't like his spelling, you always have the right to not reply to this thread, or simply send him a pm to address your concerns about his spelling and do it with tact.

Anyway, I read the reviews mostly for fun...its nice to see all the different products out there, but if I am seriously interested in a product, I make every effort to try it out. As far as the Emag goes...well, I didn't have to try it out to know that I'd like it

i personally read all the cons of every review first to get a general idea of problems people have and base descision on that

Or could it be that their maker performs well?

                        My E-99 performs very well, I'd proably give it a 7 - 8 / 10.

Read the brass eagle reviews and tell me if you think its fair. I think its pretty fair.

If you cant afford a mag a spyder is the next best thing. The spyder people here know theres alot of cheap mods for a spyder that will put them high above a stock spyder.

Hey, if a Spyder gets a 10/10, Yahoo!

It gets the paint out the barrel, and the player is happy. I use pbreview mostly for what people have used that is similar to their new purchases. They tend to compare similar products that they have owned.
