I just went to Bad Boys Toys, wich some of you know of, so they could put together my drop forward and my gas line, a steel braided hose, on my gun, an X-mag. Only when they went to go seal up my hose they used red locktight instead of teflon tape. So now i can't take off my valve. I am afraid that if I try to take off the red locktight that the threads on my valve will be ruined. Is there any safe way to take off my red locktight so that the threads don't get ruined. Or is there any solvent. Please, i need a reply. Thanks for your time.

I agree u should just take it back to bad boys and make them put it back on. My question is (and this is not a flame) why do u need someone else other than you to set up your drop/airhose.

When/If you bring it back, I suggest you have them set up some sort of quick disconnect or pro-connect setup. Make sure they put the male end on the valve. That way you can take the valve out without unscrewing fittings all the time.

If it really is Red Locktite, don't mess with it. You should have that professionally removed (sometimes machine shops will do it for you). Hopefully BBT will do it for you. I have tried to remove Red by myself, and only ended stripping the threads (using the heat method). You have to remember that the heat softens up the locktite but it also softens up the metal. I don't know what Red locktite is made out of, but its extremely tough. If you do decide to do it by yourself, remember to go slowly: heat a little bit apply pressure, if nothing happens heat a little more, etc.

I'm sorry, but I don't 'em using actual red loctite. It's probably the red pipe goop. It is pretty tuff stuff but will break loose pretty easily.
If worse comes to worse, you can touch the offending part with a warmed up soldering iron to break loose the "loctite".

Dude, no offense, but you could not apply enough heat with any of the methods mentioned (possibly the torch - but even that would be tough) to soften metal. Furthermore, you cannot strip *threads* when loctite is used. You might strip the head of the bolt or screw, but not threads.Originally posted by Chestercopperpot

FWIW, I haven't had any luck with blow dryers and guess hot water won't cut it either. Loctite really isn't that hard to deal with once you break out the heat. Again, just be careful to not burn yourself or screw up orings near the point that heat is being applied. (i.e. when removing barbs from a cocker ram push the ram and therefore the orings to the opposite end of the ram from the one being heated.)
If you don't feel comfortable take it back to BBT - but don't let anyone try to tell you that you can't do things for yourself.
The comment about the red pipe goo is a good point as well - it is what they likely used.

Hey I'm just telling you what happened to me when I tried to remove the stuff using heat. I was trying to get the screws out of snowboard bindings. Heated the area with benzomatic, and promptly stripped one and then another. Maybe this isn't a normal occurance, but it did happen.Originally posted by cledford

I have never had a problem with locktigh (red) stripping threads. I have only had it kinda gum up the threads but I just picked it out with a dental tool. I have been reading and everyone is all about fire....has anyone tried a soidering iron to heat up the area....? I think if you used a higher voltage one you would have better sucess and a more control heat emmission lessing potentil damage risks...... just a thought though."Your just a myriad on inner conflict aren't you?"
