The DMW thread made me want an answer to this.
"What gives a player the right to take the rules into their own hands to exact "justice" on the paintball field?"
Specific to the DMW thread, MANY players there said, in plain englsh, that it was perfectly OK to light up (bonus ball) a player doing a DMW against you, specifically to "teach them a lesson." The response was "I'll bonus ball you back!" Forget the rules! It's a streetfight!
Under what set of rules do you have the right or ability to exact vigalante justice on a paintball field? I thought we had referees? Is that NOT what they are there for? Or has the referee become a trivial part of the game?
I really want an answer to this. Even at fields that the referee has been less than useful, they're still there to enforce rules and keep players honest. Or are we still mavericks who never really left the 'woods' mentality of "No refs, no rules"?
Are we hypocrites to say on one hand "People who crank up velocity and play outlaw ball are unsafe!" then turn around to say it's acceptable behavior to take the rules into your own hands to punish opponents at your discression? I'm beginning to think so.

However, I do agree with you.
