Talk about Overreactions. As other people in the thread have said, This is NOT trying to patent the basic concept of a trigger switch. This is actually a VAGUELY new concept, albiet one that is not tournament legal by the sound of it.

Which brings me to my point... Some of you guys just made yourselves look VERY overreactive. There was a good Whole page or so of whining before someone else finally said "Hey, this doesn't look that bad." Because it doesn't. It's some lame trigger setup that any EE Student could have come up with. I'm suprised noone bothered to patent it before.
Indeed the patent is for invention of technology and not application of the the technology. The probelm with the patent office that they are grossly under funded and thus understaffed. They have a small group of people that look over millions of patents and have to determine quickly if a new patent is valid or not based on exsisting patent data. The people do not necessarily have an expert background with the patents they are reviewing.

With today's technology there should be a way to have "public discussion", without disclosing anything confidential, before these are granted. The government has to do this whenever regulations are changed.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

What we really need is to buy that old navy patent. Then just beat smart parts over the head with it until those selfish, greed inspired paint-nazis bleed from thier balls.

man thats a lot of knee jerking in this thread. orthopedic doctors are lining up at the bmw dealership expecting all the knee damage done here. what this forum needs to do is take a collective deep breath and realize that not every thread with the words "smart parts" in them equates the writings of satan himself. im with hitech on this one, if you want to lodge a female dog, lodge it witht he patent office. anybody can apply for a patent, its up to the office to grant it. sp did what thousands of people/companies do everyday.

[tangent]i think some of you should channel your unbridled rage against abc. every five minutes i see another negative story about the sport on their newscasts and most of it is deeply slanted and not baised in a normal playing enviroment. be mindful if your moms and dads watch too much good morning america.[/tangent]

The way these guys just post before reading through the item in question or thinking about it reminds me of Slashdot/PBN.

Don't get me worng. I have nothing against this patent. It's just a touch pad based trigger. I just want the shocker one gone.

We really do need to find some way to get ahold of that old navy patent though. The navy can't compete with commercial buisnesses so they legally can't defend it. If it's ownership changed over to a private organization however...
