I hate the black oxide steal allen wrenchs! Anyone ever use something other than black oxide that doesnt rust 2 seconds after you touch them?

I think you can buy them in tool steel...

However black oxide IS an anti-rust agent. Mine, well I've had only one allen wrench rust. And that was left in snow for two months.

If you're having serious issues with rust on your allen wrenches, I'd suggest taking better care of them. a light coat of oil like was put up for your consdideration would be good. You could also use dessicant packs.

I keep my allen wrenches in my toolbox, with no special protection. I've had the same set of allen wrenches for... erm... four years. rust free.

I use my allens many times a day.

They round out over time no matter how careful you are.

I buy Craftsman since there's a Sears across the street from the shop.

I just have a bin of assorted wrenches, and I just fumble through them till I Find the right one

Sad thing is, I do a lot of marker work for my own and other people at my field/team, but really dont exactly have adequate tooling...

I have a set of Craftsman wrenches that are covered in a kind of patina. Yuck. I have a $1 set from Walmart that seem pretty much invincible.

I got a set of Stanley Standard and Metric long wrenches for $12 at Wal-Mart. They have a black coating on them (not sure what it is), but they haven't rusted and they have a case so you know which size each one is.

Might want to try a set of those. I know Craftsman would be good too.

If you buy any Craftsman products at Sears and it gets damaged, Sears will replace it for free with no questions asked. I recently returend two sets of allen keys, one set had a few rusty and missing keys and the other set only had missing.
