    Stainless allen wrenches

You can buy stainless steel allen keys, individually or in sets, if you can afford it.

$200 for a full set. But hey, they'll never rust!
I'm sure there are cheaper sets, somewhere...

Black oxide is a standard and inexpensive surface treatment for many carbonized steel items with tight tolerances required, including bolts and hex drive (allen) tools. Unfortunately, it's also not a very good preventer of rust.

If you own "blackish" allen wrenches, they are black oxide treated. Some are treated better than others, though.
Bondhus makes some of the best I've ever seen, but even they rust, given the right conditions (I'm looking at my old set, sitting in my desk drawer).

I have a set of Bondhaus allens with the ball end. They're very nice. Once you go ball end, you never go back.

Unless, of course, the hex hole you're working on is already slightly damaged/rounded, or is partially full of something (grease, metal shavings, etc.) Then you'll wish you had at least one end "normal"/square-edged. =)
Most Bondhus sets have one end of each, so all is well.

          It's spelled Bondhus.

Bondhus uses a high quality black oxide coating that will not rust and they don't wear out like cheap allen wrenches.

genuine actual "Allen" brand allen wrenches are good quality too. I prefer them to bondhus in fact.
