I was not there, I do not know this ref, but I do know Lee and his paintball ethics on and off the field. He is a good man, a smart man, who did something wrong. Both sides were wrong and two wrongs don't make a right, but if he wouldn't have come in here and admitted to this act of shooting a ref I would assured you that you had the wrong person. Having played the IAO with Lee the last three years I can tell you the things he thinks about while playing paintball is safety and sportsmanship, winning is a far third. Had the ref made a bad call and the only effect would have been Lee being eliminated and losing the game, I can tell you that this would not have happened. This being a safety issue, Lee did the first thing that came to mind I am sure. Was this the right move? No. Was it justified, no, but in no way is Lee a bad person and there is no way this one mistake should cover all the good things he has done for the sport and people involved. I suggest to all that think he is a bad person, find him at the next event, meet him, talk to him. You will learn in the first 5 minutes that he has a good head on his shoulder and best interest of everyone around him.

Again, I do not know the ref, but I really hope that he did not say what he did. Reffing is hard, I know this, but a ref does have a duty to make sure that each player on the field is safe. If this means stopping play because someone is down, by it a lost mask or a player hit in the head, then that is his responsibility. I would also hope his reaction (if he really did say what has been quoted) was not a result of reffing his own team, and I would hope that if the same thing had happened on the other side, that he would not have acted differently (well…actually I would have hoped that on either side he would have acted differently, but I think you know what I mean). This is why it is ugly to judge anything that you have invested interest in. You can se this in these posts. I am biased as Lee is a friend and I trust his word, just as Jedi is probably friends with the ref and support his actions.

Hmm. Some possibly hot guns, hardshelled paint, hot weather, and at least one good shot to the head...

Under the conditions, I guess nitehawk's shooting at the ref was not done with the clearest of heads. That's the real issue that I see here...NH lashed out a bit, yeah, but it sounds different than your average player temper-tantrum (and knowing him as long as I have, I would never expect a tantrum from him, but that's just me).

I would hope that under similar circumstances, when a clearly experienced player *isn't* reacting as expected to being hit and asked to leave by a ref, the ref or spectators might realize that the player has a problem and needs assistance. That's a fair assessment, wouldn't you agree?

That explains quite a bit. I feel sorry for you in that you did not seek medical attention as a problem like this can cause further damage to your body down the road. Cranial damage is not as cut and dry as other damage done to your body, and therefore medical attention should always be sought after any such trauma has occured.

I never implied that that was niteHawks intentions, I just offered you another idea as to why it could have happened. I'm sorry that you can't understand the logic (not that it's ok to do, or that it's even right) behind that statement, but not everyone can see the light...especially when they're blinded by their own views. Sorry you don't like it. And are these the same decent players that believe the only way to win is to cheat (by wiping or by having electro markers that have tainted boards that allow them to fire in non-legal modes?), and/or to punish the opposing team by way of bunkering moves that involve multiple hits on a player?

Well, that's just the problem. There is no such thing as a "pro ref." But that's another topic. Safety should always be your number one concern, regardless of the level of skill, years of experience and/or the age of any player involved. Let's face it, any time a firearm is involved, the dangers increase, and you should always have some kind of moderator to control the playing field. That's my #1 issue with "renegade paintball." And that's also how people loose eyes, and sustain other such injuries.

No, I told you to grow up because of your use of foul, and otherwise unsavory language. It is an uneducated man that resorts to the use of such language, and his true ignorance is shown as such. On top of that, if we're talking about a "court of law" setting, I believe the defense of "temporary insanity" is still generally accepted by all 50 states, and as such, in this case, that might just be the issue. Dangerous actions? Was he shooting at someone who wasn't wearing the proper protective gear? Was this someone who was unwillingly on the field at the time? Again, I'm not trying to condone niteHawk's actions, as he's an adult, and he knows what he did, but I'm trying to get you to open your mind a little bit (which might prove to be an exercise in futility) and understand a players point of view.

Where did I say that? ::looking....:: You must have interpreted me saying the "smart thing" as the "right thing." In this context, those two "things" are mutually exclusive. Look at this way, everyone knew who the Jeremy was, and who niteHawk was b/c of the two sided incident. And those 2 have elected to resolve the issue by virtually shaking hands and leaving it at that.

I know how you feel, especially when it comes to the irrational. For someone who can't control his own speech patterns, and the use of abusive language on an open forum, I'll just put 2&2 together, and that being called a non-decent person is a compliment, coming from you that is. And I will add again, that a blow to the head in ANY sport, regardless of the danger or peril involved, is a serious issue and should be treated as such. To those of you who condone violent actions like LaSoya's bunkering move (read the link in my first post), and merely brush it off as, "well paintball is a violent sport," I pray that one day you will understand that that is NOT the image we want for our sport. We need to start taking this game seriously, or else we loose all valid arguments that our game is a real "sport."
