its the little things that make you win

alright, so ive been reading a few threads latly about players that a starting out, trying there first tournment and such. mostly they are wondering what they should be doing. yes in paintball doing the major things right will help you win. things like communication, moving and snappshooting. but its always been my beleif that the little things you do are just as important in determining who hangs the flag and who walks to the dead box. i am talking general concepts here the little tricks that you guys have picked up over the years from expereince. that way we can help the newer guys know what they are doing wrong. i am starting this because it bothers me to know end when players play and one guy just gets beat up all day and has no idea what he is doing wrong. because personally i love it after i get shot out and some one who was watching comes up and says i noticed you where doing this next time make sure you do this instead. so this thread is just a place for us more expereinced players to share some of the knowledge we have gained

just off the top of my head here its late ill post more later.

whenever you are playing always keep your gun up and ready to shoot, because you dont know when that next oppertunity to shoot someone will come. you cant kill anyone if your gun is pointed at the ground or in the air.

dont run your hopper dry, reload when you can not when you have to

when your loading dont stare at your shiz try and keep your head up and watching the game learn to load with out looking

after you load just drop your pods at your feet dont chuck them out of your bunker. two reasons one your opponent might not know where you are a colored loader flying out of your bunker is like shooting up a flare that says here i am. also if your playing air ball players might try and sneak balls under the corners of the bunker it might block a ball.

also on air feilds when you move try not to hit the bunker when you slide in your opponent might not have seen you move but an air bunker wiggling back and forth is a pretty good indication that some one is there.

    to add to your list:

make sure your feet and legs are where they are supposed to be. I have shot more people that forgot that the bunker is only so wide and push their feet out (better angle I guess)

use the barrel to push into the air bunker, making your profile smaller.

when you run, place your hand and arm over your goggles. there is a better chance of bounce that way.

Always make sure you dont have your hopper sticking out more than you have to. Lean that into your bunker as well.

If you are not shooting, you should be moving

use the bunkers to bounce shots off of to hit hidden people. It is not the easiest thing to do, but it does work.

if there is no one one to shoot at (someone not coming out of their bunker) shoot the edge of the bunker to keep them in and then move on them.

That should be a good start

well maybe you forgot to try some of these little things

when snap shooting try not to shoot more then 2 or 3 balls

the smaller you can get the less your opponent has to shoot at ie: instead of getting on your knees to where you feet hang out try staying on your feet and just getting your butt down this way if you want to make a sudden move you dont have to get up off your knees first before making a move

and in woodsball a small bush can be better then an average tree for cover if the bush is thick enough to the point were your almost positive no paint will make it through with out breaking use it as cover this way your opponent will keep shooting at you and effectively wasting there paint not that a tree isnt good cover but usually part of your body does stick out

well those are some of the little things i have used ill add more if i think of anything

when your walking the field, get one of your teammates to stand at the bunkers that will most likely be shooting at you, stick your foot out, then slowly move it in untill they cant see it, move about 6in over from there and make a mark on the field my rubbing you foot there, then when your playing, you know at what point tehy can see you, so just plant your foot on your mark to snap shoot at them

            1. Never go over the top of your bunker

            2. Don't keep on using the exact same side of the bunker to shoot out of

            3. If everyone else on your team is elimnated and you know your screwed keep calling out positions pretending like its not only you left

            4. Shoot while your running towards your bunker. if you put one hand on your hopper and the other pulling the trigger it works well. the hand on the hopper keeps good balance and directs the fire

            5. If your gun stops working for some reason that doesnt mean your finished go run for the flag or call out positions (DO NOT LEAVE YOUR GUN BEHIND OR YOUR HARNESS!!! take it wherever you go)

            6. Never focus on one player its called tunnel vision. specially when your working the tapes just because theres somebody in front of you doesnt mean that there isnt someone sitting parrall with you. always do look around the field

            7. Shoot an " n " pattern on the bunkers ... to the left side on top and to the right side

            8. If you feel that you are going to be a victim of getting bunkered either you do it first or ... get on your stomach and lay as close as you can to your bunker this way the person bunkering you wont see as quick as he thought he would and it will give you a few milli-seconds

            9. Use codes dont say " hey theres a guy in snake" thats great that your telling your teammates where your oppent is at but you also told everyone on their team that you no where one of their players is located

            10. Use the paintball field in football terms

Personally I think the most important thing is to know your equipment...Dont tweak your gun the night before in the hotel room if you have been playing fine with it for months.....Your only inviting disaster...

stay calm! especially in a situation where you are the only person left on your team and you know you are gonna get reamed....being edgy and hyper only worsens the situation..instead stay calm and try to do the last thing they expect..MOVE ON THEM!! take control of the situation and confuse the hell out of them. Moving disrupts the normal 2or 3 on 1 scenario...they normaly know where you are and they get set up to bunker you...if you move it throws things off for them and they have to regroup.
Whats the worst thing that will happen, you'll get shot?

Angles are essential, always watch your angles so no one can catch you looking the wrong way, my fav. elemination.

Set up good firing lines and angles before the break.

As for keeping elbows tucked, always watch yourself so you can play tighter.

Try reading PB2X they have great tournament coverage and tips.

Walk the field with your gear on, if not your gogles and packs. You'll be suprised how much less you see outta your gogs, and more of the packs.

If you and an opponent are exchanging fire on a tape line, and there is netting right beside you, shoot the netting to get the balls to bounce out and hit them. I've done this many times and people simply dont know how I got them.

I have a few thoughts for you back players:

                            1) Off the break, you are shooting down your lane as fast as you can. Getting to your bunker is usually no more than 10 feet so you can walk it.

                            2) Don't try and follow the people off the break; that is what the shooting lanes are for. Usually on the left and right side of the field there is a lane that 2 perhaps 3 people will have the run through to get in position. Just repeatedly empty your hopper on there; almost always gets you 1 or 2 people.

                            3) If you are not shooting, you are reloading

                            4) YOU are the eyes of your frontman. YOU need to be the most vocal and REPREATEDLY call out everyone's position you can see even if you said it before

                            5) Ghosting. This applies to anyone on the team but it's very handy. When one person on your team moves, you or someone else on your team moves a split second later. Just when the other team sees the first man move, someone else pops up in a different part of the field. It can buy you the time and your teammate the time to get in during the confusion.

6). Don't force your way out of the bunker. As a backman you will be exchanging hoppers with the other backmen. If a hail of fire pushes you in on one side of your bunker, don't fight it, go to the other side.

                            7) When your team moves up, YOU move up too. Just because you are the backman does not mean you sit in the back, you advance with the team.

                            8) Even if you cannot see anyone from where you are, put a few balls at each bunker. It keeps em on their toes.

That's most of what I can thin of.

i wouldnt say NEVER come over the top of your bunker i think that is one of the things that people tell you when you first start playing so you dont do it. however to occasionaly come over the top might be that little surprise that you need first off most people arnt watching for it so you might catch them off guard. second after you do it they will be expecting it again it throws them off a little because they have to watch more then just the side of your bunker. however it should be used sparingly because coming over the top does leave you very exposed
