    Pump help! Which one?

So its about time I buy a pump. BradAGD showed me his carter, which is awsome, but way to expensive. Here are my needs so maybe some of you pump savy folks can suggest a gun.

    - relible
    - parts widly availible
    - interchangable barrels
    - light
    - stick feed and hopper feed
    - autotrigger
    - 12gram and Constant air (switch back and forth)
    - Possible future "RT" like pump action
    - smooth pump action with a smooth trigger
    - fairly efficient.

Is it just me, or does your list of requirements not read like the bullet points of features on a CCI Phantom?

I owned a Carter back in '90, '91, and it was well built, but it wasn't as good as my teammates Phantom.

Get a stock class Phantom package that includes the stick feed and 12g quick changer. Both are removable and you could then switch to 7oz back bottle with a hopper in a second.

If you buy used, make certain it's a second gen or later Phantom. The originals that were produced in the early 90s did not have removable barrels.

      Yep, Phantom...

An Illusion also has similar specs, except slightly heavier.

        Illusion

I love my Illusion, from vertical feed to stick feed in a minute.

I could not help but notice that neither "Cost" or "Value for the price" appears to be one of your merit points, but you did mention that the Carter was too expensive.

I would second the Phantom suggestion, if you don't want to spend a fortune.

              Phantom fits your description perfectly.

Another option, though parts aren't widly availible is a pump mag.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys and here is what I came up with thus far...

Phantom: ITs cool. It seems I could purchase a gravity feed model and go from hopper to stick pretty easly. I assume I could use a stock off the grip frame, an ASA below the stock for a 12gram for stock play or a 7oz for other play?

Illusion: I looks just like a cocker. So is there any difference bewteen this and a Sniper2?

Pump mag: It doesnt autotrigger. I assume that autotriger means you can hold down the trigger while "pumping" and a ball is shot after every full "stroke", nice! From what I understand all teh guns listed above, except the mag, do this.

                  Sterling: What about these?

After looking around, I think your best bet is to order the constant air express setup online from 888paintball.com

Then call CCI directly and order the stock feed horizontal breech, a stick feed, and a 12g changer. Check phantomonline.com

888's price on the CA setup Phantom is $174.88. CCI's total on the accessory parts for stock play will be just under $100 direct. You should be able to find stock parts cheaper if you look around for a bit though. I think you should be able to build the whole setup new for under $250.

It appears to be a far better deal to buy the standard setup and convert it to stock, rather than buying the stock version and converting it to gravity feed and constant air. Saves almost $100.

The the valving is different from the sniper2(I was told it was based on sterling valve). Its actually reversed, so you end up adjusting velocity through the front end. Illusion also has dual pump arms which makes for a super smooth pump action (more over a stock sniper2) and another plus is that its cocker threaded.

I have both a phantom and an illusion, both are great shooters. But I shoot my illusion more because its has more of a solid feel to it. I would recomnend trying both out before you buy.

from everything on your list you either want a phantom or an illusion. Both will meet everything there. But the illusion is a touch heavier and lacks auto-trigger.

The difference between the sniper 2 and illusion is that the illusion comes with a different and non-interchangable valve that is more efficient on CO2 and 12grams. It also has a more stable pump (not many people notice nor care about this.. and a CCM sniper 2 pump kit is also very stable).

Barrels are interchangable between the illusion and Sniper. The tirgger is beefier on the illusion, and it swings (vs. snipers sliding).

And lastly it comes with an angel threaded feedneck. Now some custom bodied snipers can have this too.. but it is a stock feature on the illusion.

As for the sterlings, well they are my babies. I have never wanted to shoot another pump since getting mine. However, they do not meet all of your requirements.

They do not have a wide barrel selection (though J&J does offer an edge kit.. which I use and love). Nor can they be quickly converted to straight stock class, as doing so would create a ball stack on the bolt, true stock only places one ball above the bolt.

However, the pros of a sterling are: stock vert feed. Ultra smooth and light pumping. No pump gun is lighter... and anyone claiming so either has never tried one, or has a very modified sniper (I can make a sniper that uses light springs and a heavy hammer that pumps like a sterling).

and the sterling is very light and small... but I am mostly just addicted to that pump stroke.

My advice is try as many as possible if you can. I shot a PGP for years and thought it was great. Used a trracer once and thought it was ok.. but I was never 100% a pump player till I tried a sterling.

Phantom all the way. Super-light, compact and high quality. Carter guns can be marginally better, but at a high premium cost. Mike at CCI is a stand-up guy and well worth supporting.

It's all of about 3 minutes to swap bodies (less if you don't have the hardline, but I'd recommend it and it comes standard with the VSC). The 45 gripframe has standard bottomline screws. The stock Phantom barrel is without a doubt the best stock barrel I've ever shot.

The vertical adapter on Phantoms isn't meant for tanks larger than 4oz... that's the only downside. If you wanted a 7 or 9oz tank, I'd run it on a bottomline.
