if you are biulding an air cannon for firing paint ballons or paintball shot. then you will only need about 50-90PSI. just make your dump chamber big enough and it will work like a charm.

      NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

You DO NOT want to to go over 100psi. If it's make out of PVC 550 is very unsafe and if it metal you would shoot one of those fome rockets through a wall with 550psi.

that is a video clip I have seen. ther was a guy that made an air cannon that was charged with 100PSI of air, shooting golf balls........(not at people, of course) it went clean through a peice of 1/2" ply wood at about 50 feet.

I think i head the psi changes 11psi for every degree F."

Buff, I'm sure you meant no slander to Bill and Frank just because Joe does a better job at getting it right. Lol What you said holds true under certains conditions(Co2 changes alot).
Actually as long as your tank remains at 40*F or lower, it will be about 590psi or so (depending on temp.) even if you OVERFILL it to 130% of rated capacity or underfill it to only 20% cap.-still 590. Refer to the chart I linked to in my earlier post. Very cool study. (pun not intended)

The warmer Co2 gets the more it rises in pressure with each degree warmer F. So, at some point your 11psi per degree F. is right. Probably between 50-60*F.

I love these air cannon creations ... anyone else think TK should give up this silly dinosaur bone fascination and do something really important, like Pumpkin Chuckin'?
