Speedball vs Woodsball bickering

It's really quite simple. Paintball is a game that is played in the woods with air guns that shoot paint balls. Speedball is a game that is played in an open feild using "paintball" equipment. They are not the same game/sport. Speedball is the red headed step child to paintball. Sort of like Frasier was a spin off of Cheers.

So if your going to be a true paintball player you go and play in the woods.

If you are a speedball player,, please dont ruin the good reputation of paintballers by calling yourself a paintball player.

Shows how much you know. Woodsball is not recball is not beer league softball. Woodsball as in - the FIRST tournaments ever held, as in, the way tournaments were played from 1982 through 1998, as in, the events where ALL of the 'pro' players who have game got their education.

Now we're playing on simplified fields, with simplified guns operated by simple players and some of you think that the answer is standardizing rules and employing professional referees?

The answer is to require some level of skill, experience and intelligence on the field in order to have success; responsibility and professionalism will follow if you prevent the barbarians from participating...

Um... we live in free countries, and Anyone can play any game they can afford. And who's to decide who is a "barbarian", anyway?

But if "woodsball" is old-school big-field tourney play, then Yes, "speedball" is better. As a sport. Standardised/simplified fields, bright colours, numbered jerseys - those are all steps forward. Maybe the new game is easier to learn, and easier to play. So what? More people are playing now than ever before, and that's not a bad thing.

See my tag above... I play rec, in the woods. I leave speedball to the youngsters and the tourney-guys. And they leave the woods to me and my friends. I think that's fair.

I'd say if you play a few times a year, own your own gear, and aren't just a once a year renter you're a true paintball player

If anything the percentage of "real" paintball players is lower in the woods then in speedball, since woodsball gets all the single serving players.

I can't understand why people feel the need to create hype that there is a division between x type of player and y type of player in the world of paintball. I've been playing a long time, starting in the woods, played tournaments in the woods till they came out into hyperball then onto air ball and now X-ball. I play now and again at big/ scenario games, and work for a distributor/ manufacturer at any type of paintball event you can think of. 13 years of this I might add. I've never seen/ heard anyone with any type of knowledge speak down about one format or another in any seriousness, like I do in rants on the internet from various parties. It's like every 2 years someone has to try to create a rec/ tourney war, and it never pans out.

It always ends in the same result...no one cares what format people play, just as long as they play paintball, and don't bother people doing it.

i play which ever when the oppurtunity presents it self when my woodsball buddies are like come on were gona go play you wana come im like sure and then when i feel in the mood for some speedball i drive an hour and a half to paintball arkansas
