Why do we do it ? What magical combination are we looking for by switching markers all the time ?
As many of you know I have been playing for quite a few years (relatively). I am not by any means an old timer , but still long enough to have been here when mechs were IT. Mags and cockers sat on their venerable throne as rulers of the tourney circuit and the subject of many vs. threads that continue to this day.
A few years ago the sport changed in a major way with the introduction of electronic markers. Suddenly the speed we could hose the field down with paint is limited only by the speed of our hopper , software , and our wallets ability to keep up. Many players now days have no ability whatsoever other than to be able to afford to keep shooting trains of paint back and forth across the field to supress the other team into( if nothing else financial )submission....
Let me digress. This post isn't about some golden dreamed idea of going back to the old days of pumps and ten round tubes of paint. Those "glory days" are gone. And good riddance in many ways as far as I am concerned. I am spoiled by electronics. I love eyes and force fed hoppers. Gone are the games where I have to carry my squeegie with me on the field. I no longer count the times I break balls in a day , it has gotten down to the point of expecting not to have a break all month , ever....and I like it.
No what this ramble was originally about was(many of)our incessant habit to gun whore. Now mind you , not all of us are afflicted with this mindless obsession. No ! I have friends who still pull out the same tippy , or spyder that they started playing with those many years ago.
I bought a used Impulse a few days ago. Its an "older" marker , definately a long past flavor of the month. Its one of among many "E" markers I have owned through the years. I have spent much less , and WAY more for electronic markers than this one. But I came to the realization the other day while playing with this one that it was really not enough different from other markers that cost twice its price to have made that much difference. I could honestly have taken almost any one of the "E" markers I have ever owned , with a few dollars in upgrades to some and a Halo B on all of them and had basically the same end result. The only difference was asthetic.....
And I continue to search for some different marker , expecting to find that grail.
I am going back to the classifieds....see ya there !
